Hi All, well alot of you know my dad has been fighting with cancer for a few years now. He has had a rough couple of months in and out of the hospital for severe pain. A month ago they put a pain pump in his back so it will directly put the pain meds in the tumor on his spine.

Over a week ago, the pump was not working rigth, so they operated on him and fixed that. then he got home a few days later and tried to get out of bed by himself instead of calling mom as he did not want her to wake up and fell and broke a rib.

He just got home from the hospital again 2 days ago, we were hoping he was finally going to get a fresh start as he has lost over 50 lbs and is so weak. He callled mom and my sister into the bedroom yesterday and said he could not feel his legs. Called the doctor, they sent him by ambulance back to the hospital and after doing a CT scan and an MRI late last night they found a new tumor growing out of the old one on his spine. it is pretty big covering 3 vertirbre and has gotten that big in less than a month. SO needless to say he may never walk again.

The doctors are meeting with them this morning to tell dad. Mom and Chris were told around 11 last night and Mom just really broke down. It just sucks, so if you all would not mind please say a prayer for all of them. we sure could us all the prayers we can get. I just hope that dad does not give up after this. He is too weak for any treatment and I know his body can not take much more. I just want him to be pain free. I will keep you all posted, your prayers worked wonders for Bill just want them to work for him as well.
Thanks
Jules

Jules, you are wishing for the right thing: "I just want him to be pain free."

Cancer sucks, I lost my younger brother to melanoma several years back and we had similar wishes.

Juls, having spent time on the vineyard with your mom and dad I feel closer to him than many of the people here. Knowing him, little as I do though, it is easy to see where your strength and spirit come from, as much as I know you. I will pray doubly hard for him, and the rest of the family. Peace

Dad is not doing well at all. the new tumor has grown into his spinal cord and he will never walk again. there is nothing they can do as he had too much radiation before and he can not have surgery as he is too weak and they would have to have done it withing 72 hours of him going paralized to do it. So he elected not to take a chance as his own surgeon said he would not touch it with a ten foot pole. So basically this tumor is growing out of the old one near his spine that has been causing all the severe pain and has grown into the spinal cord. He is going home today, they are going to be bringing hospice in to help. All the boys and chris are going to take turns staying overnight with mom to help move him if need be. The way the tumor is growing up the spine will mean he will eventually have bowel problems and organs that eventually shut down.
It just really sucks, he is so sad right now its hard to talk to him on the phone, he keeps telling me to get the boat ready as he wants to come up and fish until he can't go anymore. Its very heartbreaking!!!

I just hope they can keep him pain free and hope he does not suffer. I told him today that he has gotten alot of overwhelming information the past few days and he needs to get home and get some rest. That doctors are not God, and he has a ton of people praying for him. He needs to start eating and drinking as best he can and build his upper body strength back up. Just so hard!!!

You all are right, Cancer sucks, and I pray for all of you who are dealing with this terrible disease as well.

I told him I have him on the fishing prayer chain in the world right now that he needs to keep fighting the good fight. Thanks all of you once again for helping give me and Bill and my family the strength to keep going. I am going to have mom login later and read these posts as I know it will help her as well.

Well the news is getting bleaker by the day, he is now fighting a urinary tract infection. Still not able to eat much and is have pain off and on but hospice is there and they are wonderful people. Mom and the rest of the family are really having a hard time. Bill and I are trying to take care of business here so we can get down there as soon as possible as the nurse told mom yesterday we may only have weeks.

As I said before I just don't want him to suffer or be in pain and they are taking good care of him in the pain category. Its just really sad, my heart aches for him and my whole family, just hope I can get down there in time. Thanks and please keep praying for him and my family!!!
I just want dad to be at peace.

Hi All, just a little update for you, Dad is not good but hanging in there, we did have the whole family here for Easter so it was a wonderful day. Hospice says he does not have alot of time left but God is in charge of that catagory as we all know. He is still in alot of pain when we have to roll him as he is getting bed sores, but hospice who have been absolutely wonderful for our family, are taking good care to try and keep him form getting to many. He is not eating much now but is still drinking good. Does not say much and gets confused at times. We know his time with God is coming soon. None of us want to see him suffer any more.

We all keep telling him how much we love him and I told him the other day that we are going to take good care of mom, and he kept trying to say some and repeated the word don't several times and he looked at me and said "don't worry" Its so hard to see him suffering but we are all thankful to be able to have this time with him to tell him how we feel.

As sad as cancer is at least we have that opportunity right now to be with him and talk and just comfort him. Alot of people never get that chance to say goodby. Right now we are all just praying for him to be at peace and keep him pain free. I thank all of you again and again for all the prayers you have sent to me and Bill and my family. We love you all and we keep you posted.

Please keep praying for the lord to lift him up to that special place he has waiting in heaven. I told him when he gets there he needs to be watching down on me with my grandfather and send a couple of 50 lb bass my way. He said OK!!!

Love you all, and thank you, Jules

I remember my fathers last few weeks in the V.A., just before they sent him to the nursing home, after he stopped talking basically, he could still sing his favoraite irish melody, smile then close his eyes for awhile. I knew he always knew you were there at his bedside, and I used to visit him at wacky times, when he was comotose, because I would hold his hand and he would squeeze back like you were being tested. So always hold your loved ones hand, they'll know its you.
