Mr. Sandman 04-10-2012, 02:06 PM does not seem to be as generous as they once were with the service replacement on the stellas. They upgraded me on a reel that would have cost a ton to repair. (it was used hard for 10 years but serviced every year) The upgrade was 60% of the new cost. It use to be no charge in the past. And they have treated me very well. Times must be getting tough for them too.
I was going to get a 20000 for a tuna spin rod, may try that new diawa instead.
Hmmmm. I am a little bummed.
tysdad115 04-10-2012, 03:38 PM I had a similar experience with my 10K , check around though on the Diawa..some tuna guys are not giving it good reviews.
Clogston29 04-10-2012, 03:49 PM haven't heard great things about the new saltiga either.

Man I was just thinking the same about Ferrari! How dare they charge that much for a car then not give you a brand new one after driving it around for 10 years?!

Yeah, thinking the same thing one this one........
Mr. Sandman 04-11-2012, 08:37 AM Well, given their initial price and platinum service deal, that was their policy. flat rate to fix it and prompt service turnaround and they replaced it if they felt it was more cost effective.
That is why I made the commitment to them. CS is everything to me. I don't really care what the initial cost is IF you take care of me from hear on out. I have to admit, while I still like their products, they have dropped a notch or two on what I think about their CS. I will consider others now where up to now it was only shimano just because they took good care of me in the past.
Mike P 04-11-2012, 01:53 PM Does Daiwa still make the original Dogfight? I think they may have kept it going when the new Saltigas came out?? Even if not, there might be some leftovers around.
I still think that the first run (2002-2009) Saltigas are the best spinning reels out there, for all-around use. I've been beating the piss out of mine since July of 2006. One service, only replaced the line roller bearings.
All the goodies are going away it seems.
Sales of the new stuff are probably down so much they changed their business model with respect to accommodating a dying product line and decided to emphasize cheaper stuff. If the high end people go away, the projections must indicate that losing them will not have a significant impact on profitability.
Loyalty, responsibility, truthfulness - corporations may be recognized as people in the eyes of the law, but they don't feel emotions. Corporate behavior is more along the lines of that of a sociopath.
Retirees from unions are having their promises retracted also - think how those people feel.

Dogfight will no longer be made. They are while supply lasts.
