View Full Version : Spanish Fly Tribute nightfighter 04-13-2012, 07:37 PM On Outdoor Network now bobber 04-13-2012, 10:23 PM yeah- caught that earlier today. will be on tomorrow too. Slipknot 04-14-2012, 07:24 AM I saw the show by DRV and it confirms that Jose was THE MAN I've watched the show since the 90's, he really had a way what a life he had, he wanted to be the best and he was gone way too soon RIP Mr. Sandman 04-15-2012, 10:58 AM I have had his show DVR'ed for years...I just watched the tribute. I have never met the guy but he was the best. We did cross paths once though. He was fishing in my backyard, literally, in Sengekontacket pond with a local guide. I had a seacraft moored in the pond then and saw a flats boat and a camera boat pass by. (which was odd because there is not much boat traffic back in there)As we passed by each other both of us waved at each other at the same time. It took me a moment to put it all together and didn't realize it was indeed him until later in the morning when I heard he was shooting on the vineyard and he was fishing my pond. Later in the year I saw the segment in TV. I have two favorite episodes one was when he went to the coral sea and fish on the mothership Nomad (and was a contributing factor on how I named my boat, because I thought that was a really cool name for an expedition fishing boat) The other was when he went to the Seychelles and caught some of the coolest fish ever. His show was the best fishing show ever done on TV. It was not all about fishing, he got into the culture, the people, the local environment and took you along on the adventure and fishing was the common bond which brought them together. No wonder so many people liked him and his show. There is not an ounce of "charlie moore" in this guy, its not about showmanship or boisterousness. He was a true sportsman who loved the sea and brought it into each of our living rooms. I will miss him and I never even met him, but I feel like he is my friend. sburnsey931 04-15-2012, 02:14 PM Well said.... The way he told the story of each trip... I enjoyed as much as the fishing. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device Finaddict 04-15-2012, 09:11 PM I was fortunate to have fished with him twice ... he was always on his game, cool yet super focused ... the first time the weather was certainly curbing our original plans ... we did a variety of things, but what struck me mostly was that he was always taking advantage of whatever the situation called for ... the fishing was good too ... the second time the weather was great and we fly fished behind the shrimp boats for black tuna, moved on when the little tunny moved in, and then worked a few wrecks for cobia on fly ... his energy and ability to ensure each situation was the best it possibly could be was uncanny. He seemed to be a guy who lived his life as he wanted ... to it's fullest. A great person to emulate. He also was always willing to help out on anything that most people requested ... many of the posts you see on Facebook from people who knew him in Florida, he was always lending a hand. A true loss. FinS 32 04-15-2012, 09:51 PM wish i had outdoor channel. Jose's show was what i looked forward to every sunday morning on ESPN2 when i was younger, wake up early before church and watch it. Finaddict 04-18-2012, 08:59 PM It's a well-done tribute ... Ross was that done by your friend Trevor Gowdy? I recognized the voice, but could not remember who it was. nightfighter 04-18-2012, 09:17 PM No. That was not Trev's voice. JohnnySaxatilis 04-19-2012, 05:42 AM Just a comment, how bout at 8:33 when he's fishing for red bass in australia and jumps in after the fish after it gets into the coral and brings it back up.... with a pencil popper... beast mode vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
