nightfighter 05-07-2012, 06:28 PM Marblehead.... Here is a link to a Town Meeting Warrant to ban use of leaf blowers! WTF. What will be next? Pressure washers? Lawn mowers? Although unlisted, I intend to be calling the sponsor's home every time I cut my lawn to ask for his assistance with the raking or to contribute funds to cover the extra cost in man hours, should it pass..... Who is to enforce this? The police? Ridiculous that this even made it to the warrant. Too much government...... Move to the city Mr Sponsor: Pickett Street resident Christopher Bergonzi
WARRANT WATCH: Article 36, To ban leaf blowers - Marblehead, MA - Marblehead Reporter (http://www.wickedlocal.com/marblehead/town_info/government/x1942573151/WARRANT-WATCH-Article-36-To-ban-leaf-blowers#axzz1u7NYyuA1)
Off to first night of Town Meeting.......
Raven 05-07-2012, 07:17 PM Although i agree with you having been in the landscape business....
the fact remains they are indeed LOUD and the guy next door goes
mental for a full 8 hours with his out in his woods patch....
so that, i have to either leave (...no pun intended) or put on headphones
now, the cost of landscaping will go way up if it passes with the rakes
being a slow replacement requiring more labor hours to accomplish
the same thing.
Drivers of Cars on the other hand are absolutely CLUELESS what it
takes to operate a backpack blower and with head phones on for hearing protection........
you cannot hear them driving up behind you AT ALL and it scares the crap
out of you thinking your just about to be run over making all the hair go up
on the back of your neck "CHILLS" sucks.
striperman36 05-07-2012, 08:18 PM I think Newton has the same bill, that's why all the Brazilians moved out of the neighborhood
Sea Dangles 05-08-2012, 06:26 AM cuz Newton was full of Brazilians.
PRBuzz 05-08-2012, 07:51 AM I think Newton has the same bill, that's why all the Brazilians moved out of the neighborhood
Now the only Brazilians left are of the wax variety.:rotf2:
The Dad Fisherman 05-08-2012, 08:34 AM Hey Ross...is this guy one of the "Neck" residents? Seems like its there own little world out there sometimes
nightfighter 05-08-2012, 08:49 AM No. Fringe of old town where you can pass a cup of sugar to your neighbor through the windows. This guy probably has less than 400 square feet of grass on his lot. Eff him. He should move to Cambridge. It will be voted on tonight.
Piscator 05-08-2012, 08:53 AM No. Fringe of old town where you can pass a cup of sugar to your neighbor through the windows. This guy probably has less than 400 square feet of grass on his lot. Eff him. He should move to Cambridge. It will be voted on tonight.
Stand in front of his house today with your blower on while it's legal waving to him!

He will most likely be at work....MIT in Cambridge.
TheSpecialist 05-08-2012, 09:36 AM Although i don't agree with the ban there should be some regulations on them.. Like no starting a blower earlier than 10 am on the weekends, make it illegal to blow debris onto public ways, streets, highways or sidewalks. Half the time I see landscapers blowing it out to the street and dispersing never picking it up. Also my truck has been hit numerous times by the debris created by them.
Piscator 05-08-2012, 09:42 AM Also my truck has been hit numerous times by the debris created by them.
Me too!!!
I agree to the time restrictions too.
nightfighter 05-08-2012, 10:14 AM Bill, you are starting to sound like the folks who want to take your guns away.......
TheSpecialist 05-08-2012, 10:48 AM :rotf2:Bill, you are starting to sound like the folks who want to take your guns away.......
Just some commonsense stuff, they already passed commonsense guns regs right? :grins:
Slipknot 05-08-2012, 10:57 AM LOL
Leaf blowers don't cause noise pollution, people do
:rotf2:
no chance that passes Ross
PRBuzz 05-08-2012, 11:05 AM Might be an indirect way to control illegal immigration via profiling: very high probability in Marblehead that someone carrying a leaf blower is not a citizen, at least of Marblehead.:rotf2:
vineyardblues 05-08-2012, 12:45 PM OUCH
Best Of Luck Ross
I love my Leaf Blower best thing I bought in a while
Swimmer 05-08-2012, 01:25 PM I'd better get one before the ban comes. Blackmarket prices will be obscene.
Swimmer 05-08-2012, 01:25 PM All kidding aside, if it paSSES IT WILL BE UNENFORCABLE.
Matt D 05-08-2012, 03:39 PM LOL

Yeah, almost as far-fetched as a ban on selling water in plastic bottles.
I thought the headline was going to be "Peoples Republic of Concord". :rotf2:
Rockport24 05-08-2012, 04:30 PM I find it hard to believe this will pass in Mhead, there are plenty of homeowners who take care of their own lawns that this would affect.
In Brookline and Cambridge, the only people who can even afford to HAVE a lawn are rich so who cares if the landscaper charges a little more!
Piscator 05-08-2012, 04:30 PM "Officer, this is not a leaf blower, what it does is blow air...."
Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device
nightfighter 05-08-2012, 04:45 PM I'll just redeploy it as my gutter cleaner and carwash dryer.......
nightfighter 05-08-2012, 08:29 PM Vote of 285-211 for indefinite postponement.
Piscator 05-08-2012, 11:27 PM Wow, that was close!!!! So there at least 211 whacko's in Marblehead.....

Raven 05-09-2012, 05:06 AM Ya Know NF ....your post got me to thinking.....
what would it take to have silent leaf blowing and or vacuuming
i started to think of a heavily insulated truck that had several layers
of noise reduction and cone baffles to absorb the noise of a motor.
it could be an electric motor to begin with hooked up to a commercial size vac.
this is out of the box thinking....where innovation is Born....
because noise pollution is a reality as is light pollution
where you can no longer even view the stars....at times
The Dad Fisherman 05-09-2012, 05:53 AM Whats the difference in sound levels between a Leaf Blower and a Lawn Mower? not much...and one is ok and one isn't.....makes absolutely no sense.
and think about Chainsaws, Weed Whackers and other power tools. What's to stop these people at just Leaf Blowers
Raven 05-09-2012, 07:26 AM yeah what's the sound limit on blasting car radio's
decipel 's (sp) exactly TDF what's the dif?
Raven 05-09-2012, 07:28 AM Wow, that was close!!!! So there at least 211 whacko's in Marblehead.....

no! you have to think of them as 211 customers
that want silent running equipment
Piscator 05-09-2012, 08:26 AM yeah what's the sound limit on blasting car radio's
decipel 's (sp) exactly TDF what's the dif?
What about motorcycles?
PRBuzz 05-09-2012, 08:46 AM Noise pollution is noise pollution, only decibels count. Doesn't MH get a few things that fly overhead, also?
Raven 05-09-2012, 11:47 AM What about motorcycles?
even an electric motorcycle needs the sound of a Harley
even if it's just a recording to wake people up
fact is... when people look at a motorcycle they look around it
focusing in on the SURROUNDINGS instead of the object
coming right at them
Rockport24 05-09-2012, 01:40 PM yeah I'm sure there are a lot of noise pollution things that are technically against the law, just never enforced. Motorcycles are one of them, although some friends of mine have been ticketed for it...
although with something like this I can see some DB neighbor downloading a decibel meter app on his phone and calling the cops to complain!
sburnsey931 05-14-2012, 04:15 PM My neighbor and I had to have a talk about chores......
Chores are done in the morning before the heat of the day not when everyone is lounging/napping by the pool in the afternoon...,
He'd either run his leaf blower or chain saw all sunday afternoon... finally he woke me up from a nap after fishing too much....
Needless to say I woke up grumpy and hollering.... I did up end up apologizing.... but it hasn't been a problem since....
Saltheart 05-22-2012, 03:25 PM Cut you lawn with scissors and shovel snow with a teaspoon! :) No noise that way.
justplugit 05-22-2012, 05:08 PM More regulations along with no bake sales for you, kids get a permit
in NY before opening your lemonade stand and get a permit in NJ for
your garage sale.
My wife came home from the her Doc today and was told she is fined $1.50
for every RX she doesn't send to the pharmacy by computer.
Little by little is now becoming all encompassing.
