I just bought a kayak and was looking to get into striper fishing from it. All my gear is set up for fishing the canal 11' lami and a 1209 which I'm sure are no good from the yak. What type of rods should I get? Can I use my saltis or gosa or are the over kill? I do have an old penn 650 would this work and what rod should I pair it with? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark

I think my spinning rods are 6' 6" and my conventional might be the same? I will have to double check but google the Ugly Stick website and check out the Lites!

i would go conventional. you really dont need to cast alot and i prefer it when you troll (tube and worm) and better for jigging, imo.

I have a nice conventional setup that would be a great trolling outfit for the yak.:uhuh:

Your rod should be long enough to just clear your bow.

Yes, good point about clearing the bow. I use a 7 footer as my main kayak rod and that seems to be the best length for the kayak.
