the jig pulled out!......as Alex Karras used to say when he was furious: Darn!
Thing is who knows how big this was? I hooked it....it pulled line quickly......it was gone. Could been been 15, coulda been 50....ahem...
Anyway, it was at least the equal of yesterday's teeners, and seemingly bigger.
Only hit of the AM. Fished about 1/2 hour, caved into my old chronic ailment, went home to hit the couch.
I Shall Return... (Sorry, Gen'l)

there's definitely some bigger ones out there now. landed 8 bass last night in the rain. lost a big one too. she rubbed me off on a rock and the leader broke. best fish was 42". jigs rule.... it's good to have striper thumb again. this has been a long hard winter. J Powers, get well and get out on the water. there's a fifty with your name on it.:D

What jigs you using/ Skins , bucktails , rubber tails? We're going tonight1
all fish taken on the old reliable sluggo jig. color didn't seem to matter. i'm sure skin jigs would work just as well. it seems that the bigger fish have moved in now and are ready to play. these mid moon tides are great because you can keep the jigs on the bottom much longer. more time in the strike zone equals more fish in my book. i have found that sluggos out perform other types of jigs during slower tides. it would be interesting to see what other guys have found to work better in slower/faster tides?

Saltheart, I think getting your jig/lure/bait in front of the fish is what counts right now, as opposed to what type.....I know I am preaching to the choir when I tell you these migrating gals are hungry. I do not find them to be picky in the ditch right now. Later perhaps, but if you get it under their nose now, they will take. BUT, as is true in all fishing, RULE #1 prevails: fish must be present. I keep moving till I find them, rather than setting up camp to await the parade. No action after 20 min. or so, time to try another location. Today did not provide yesterday's action at the same location/tide.
The jig and the weighted Sluggo are both working well. I often favor the Sluggo on a bullet head jig....the nice thing about this rig is that it gets down, which is essential as you know, and it is ALWAYS working for you, if there is any current at all. That sinous wiggle is tempting for bass, to be sure. I often let em dead drift after letting 'em sink, and almost always get the take during the middle of the swing.
Good luck, and keep us posted...
