Jeez Dave you dont post here for years or check your pms or respond to emails then you sign on and say you got a 50!!!! :smash:

But really congrats man, not too many guys work as hard as you in the surf. :buds:

did you get in on your patented eel techinque? you know the one you talked about this winter at the edge. That seminar stuck with me, especially that proven tactic, I will be employing that this season.

Congrats again, cant wait to see the pics.

If you guys have a chance to listen too dave speak about surf fishing, do it, has a very thoughtout approach to his fishing.

I know, I kind of fell off on the boards when I worked for the Fisherman and never got back into it. Maybe today will change that. Someone told me this post was here so I figured I'd kill the curiosity.

All the dishonest people died off, and we're left with truthful fishermen who release 70#+ fish to fight another day.
I looked at that Laptew photo real careful-like, and I think I could make out a faint halo above Blaine's head. No sh_t.

Dave, you deserve this fish. Don't feel bad because you kept her. It is what we do. She had bred for 20+ years and was at the end of her cycle. They don't live forever. I am as much a conservationist as anyone but for Chris sake it's a 50!!!

Paul, thanks for the reassuring words, you're right, it's just one of those personal things I guess :).

Scotty... Glad someone noticed that!! When I got back to the car and changed out of my wetsuit, I couldn't find my other sock! We decided that was the redneck version of rolling up the pant leg of your swishy pants to show that you were packing.

Congratulations Canalman.

Out of curiosity, was there a lot of action that night? If yes, were they of considerable size (30+)?

Or was it a quiet night before and after you landed your prize?

Once again, Good for you!! :kewl:

This wave of supreme fish that we've been witnessing (60's, 70's, and 80) the last couple of seasons won't last forever. For any middle-aged fishermen and older, take advantage of this window of opportunity. Fish as often as you can!!! I won't bore you with my synopsis, just get out there and fish!!!! :uhuh:

Canalman
05-30-2012, 09:47 PM
It was spotty but consistent. Nothing else even close to 50, but a solid shot of 23-28 pounders and a sprinkling of fish over 30. That fish was my second fish of the night--the first was 28# and came maybe 5 casts prior. The fish were moving through in pods, or at least that's what I think :tooth:.
