I have a couple eels I wanna set aside for rigging in the near future, what is the best method of preserving them? Freezing? making a brine of some sort. And I'm assuming I'd store them in a brine when they're rigged in between trips and just sharpen hooks as needed.

I just throw them in the freezer until I feel like rigging a bunch. Thaw them out to rig and then back in the freezer in between trips. Never bothered with brine/salting, freezing and refreezing has worked fine for me.

Do you throw them in a zip lock bag or freeze them in water? I was just looking through a book of mine and from what I understand I just gotta double zip lock and freeze but just wanted to make sure.

I just freeze them, yes they get freezer burnt but the fish don't care. I have been told that fresh dead eels work best. Brining them makes them stiffer, which I don't like.

I think I read the same thing, except from what I gathered it read not to bag the dead eels and to hide them in the warmest place in your vehicle preferably the trunk. :smash:

I read something similar, but I think the main gist was to leave the eels in the trunk of your significant others car. Did I get that wrong??
