Leaving Sunday for a week in Truro. We are staying in a relatives cottage on the water on the inside of Truro. They have a mooring off the beach that they usually keep a 24' walk-around on and have invited me to put my 20' CC on it while we are there (his boat won't be there until the next week). I can launch in Pamet Harbor and keep the trailer at the cottage. I have never moored the boat before and have always trailered. Any thoughts on this? I have full confidence in the mooring (I helped install it last year). Will be bring two anchors as well. Bilge pump is working (new pump last summer).

no reason not to.

I have a mooring as well on that stretch in N. Truro. great spot to be, no reason not to use it if its a good mooring. With a SW or NW wind it gets rough on that stretch and will make you nervous even if the mooring is solid! Only advice is that you will get wet rowing to/from when it picks up. Wear a pfd if thats the case as boarding your boat from a rowboat in 3-4 ft seas can get a bit dicey. had a friend miss and end up in the water... good thing he didn't hit his head.

one more thing... From the beach you will see the "drop" line where the depth goes from about 10' to 40' and the water changes from green to blue. On a falling tide you will see terns working just on the deep side. This means bass and blues. Light tackle is great fun all along that line from PTown to Wellfleet...

What kind of mooring did you use? We put in a Helix.

Thanks for the info. capecodder. They put in 2 500lb blocks with a chain between them. Mooring chain off of middle chain I believe. I have been watching that drop off and the birds for the last few summers without so much as a dinghy to get to it! lol This year I am borrowing a kayak and was invited to bring the boat as his won't be there until the end of the week.

Your gonna have a ball!!! I would not worry about it, weather looks great and summer moorings are fine unless we have a really major storm in which case you would pull it. So, go use your boat hard for the week and catch some fish!

I love staying at small simple cottages on the water looking at the boat on the mooring. After a hard day of catching and a great fresh, local meal, to sit back with a cool adult beverage and look at the water and think about the next day fishing...Jeeeez! that is what real living is really all about!
