send Dominic out in a rubber inner tube....:biglaugh:
thefishingfreak 07-03-2012, 04:43 PM South facing beaches at sundown. Large (LARGE) bluefish chunk on however long of a single strand wire leader you can cast. (7'-9')
Forget the sand spikes or you'll be chasing it thru the surf.
We used to be pretty good at it off Nantucket.

I'd be down. Pretty sure dead eels do damage on brown sharks...
The Dad Fisherman 07-03-2012, 11:19 PM I'd soooo love to do this....
jonserfish 07-04-2012, 06:04 AM I'd be down. Pretty sure dead eels do damage on brown sharks...
yes they do. Live eels too. I'm no expert by any means but have gotten them for the past few years.
Once you get them close to shore hang on! Each crashing wave kinda gives them a re-charge. I've had them peel off over 100 yds after having it in 1' of water.
basswipe 07-04-2012, 07:07 AM Caught many a brown shark fishing PINS back in the 80s.Even caught one off of 2nd beach in Middletown several years back.
AL617 07-04-2012, 11:01 AM Brother in law caught one down the vineyard having a beach day with the family, last eel, spiked rod and straight 30# mono :D

ProfessorM 07-05-2012, 08:12 PM I'd be up for that too. I'm only a mile from a few good beaches too. Heck I'd just like to observe and socialize. I'm easily entertained.

i'm over on canal by the church. so do we have anyone with a kayak? it would be nice to get a couple of baits out deeper. we could also use a few more stout chunking setups.
The Dad Fisherman 07-08-2012, 11:04 AM I got a yak....any dates and locations been tossed around yet?
how about sat july 28th. falmouth would be the area. they should be around by then. i'll do a little research and make sure thats not to early to try
t.orlando 07-08-2012, 04:23 PM Not too early. I might meet up with you guys.
tlapinski 07-08-2012, 05:34 PM I might be down for this. Going to keep an eye on things and make the long ride up if the better half doesn't already have plans. What are we talking for terminal tackle?
If that handsome beast of a man T.O. will be there, so will I....
capecodkid 07-08-2012, 07:15 PM I gotta work til 10PM that night but I'll swing by after since its in Falmouth
MarshCappa 07-08-2012, 07:20 PM I'd love to get in on this. I'll over my kayak to paddle the bait out.
GregW 07-08-2012, 08:09 PM I'd be interested as well. I've been dying to catch a shark.

Gloucester2 07-11-2012, 03:05 PM Parking might be an issue . . . I know the lot at Heights Beach are open (and staffed) until 11 . . . the others (heading East - Bristol Beach and further down Menahaunt might be locked as early as 9 pm . . . the Town seems to be inconsistent but Id hate to see anybody locked in overnight :rotf2:
Might be better off heading to the West of Falmouth Harbor - along surf drive - a great spot might be at the mouth of the Trunk river (a small herring run - aren't they all) - there is a small parking area along the bike path that is never locked - room for 20 cars right at the edge of the ocean. I'm going to try and post the spot from Mapquest - but I'm sure Professor M and some of the other locals know of what I speak - you can see the path leading off Oyster Pond Road toward the water in the attached map.
My weekend place is only a couple of miles away - I've been doing some long deferred maintenance (paint, lawn, etc) if I get it done maybe I'll have the crew over for burgers 'n dogs . . . I think the only one from the "I'm In" crew that has met me is Vic . . .

i'm gonna do a trial run next fri or sat night. need a kayak volenteer
MAKAI 07-11-2012, 04:25 PM This could be interesting.

that was a good size shark. i've reeled in a few tarpon heads in the keys. one trip we lost 3 huge tarpon in a row and we just said screw it and put out a few live jacks and got some nice bulls and a scary big hammerhead
chefchris401 07-11-2012, 06:01 PM Got some killer info and some gear coming to me next week and a prototype century shark rod to test out.
I also have a kayak I'll bring if needed.

sounds like we got a good crew for this. kids - bring them if you want. my kid wants in but i prob wont bring him on the 28th as it will be a late night. maybe we should do a kids trip for them. parking -we need some but some of us can meet up and cut down on cars if need be - maybe at gloustas. tackle - bring what you want for rods. i've got a chitload of terminal tackle for sharks and i'll tie up a bunch of different leaders. some for casting and some that will need to be yakked out. bait -we'll put a bunch of different stuff out - fresh macks, bluefish, pogie and eel. i'll bring a bucket of chum. we could use some glowsticks if anyone has any
chefchris401 07-11-2012, 09:34 PM Got some great info from a couple great surf shark guys :)

I would go to chatham. Although I will NOT be kayaking the baits through the surf!
Oh, better bring a 130.
MarshCappa 07-12-2012, 09:18 AM That video was awesome!!! I love her shrieks!!
did a trial run last night and went 1 for 2. ended up fishing a spot w/o an inlet, my first spot was all weeded up. got one on the beach around 60 lbs and pulled the hook on another. used a baitrunner 6500 and a stout surf chunking rod. handled the first fish well and held it's own on the other one. leader setup was ok, though my 7 foot leaders might be a little short for a bigger fish. the second fish beat up the 4' section of 130# flouro pretty good. we are on for next sat night the 28th. still need to pick a beach that can handle us. we still need a kayaker if we can get one - ive got a couple of tuna spinning setups that will be fun for this but impossible to cast.
tlapinski 07-21-2012, 12:18 PM What is the set up on the terminal end? Hooks, leader etc.?

Nice work niko, too bad I missed out. Stupid truck

chris i could have used you - damn thing wanted to eat me, what a pia to unhook. for terminal setup - a 10/0 hook haywire twisted to 3-4' of 278# wire, to a swivel to a 3-4' section of 130#flouro with a fishfinder rig on it, to another swivel to the braid. but if we have a yak i'll use a wire and cable style rig like i use in the boat, just a little shorter - like 6' of wire and 6' of cable. at least if we get a bigger one on that rig we'll have a better chance if landing it
Rob Rockcrawler 07-21-2012, 01:30 PM i was waiting for this report, glad ya got one.

yeah man was bummed out, they got the axle for the truck but too late in the day and you know mechanics, it hits 5pm and there done.
had everything ready to go. leaders are all set. and have that fighting reel/rod ready to go too.
trying to get everything lined up for next saturday again, need to figure out my work schedule, have two guys out for vacation and other just had has first kid 3 days ago, going to make it work one way or the other.
could use a few suggestions on locations. looking for an outflow next to a beach with some parking. trunk river looked interesting but looked pretty rocky on google earth. anyone know if the area has alot of boulders? a wide open beach would be best.
lamigsb1 07-21-2012, 08:20 PM South cape. Bit of a walk to the outflow though

anyone know how far the outlet for waquoit is from south cape beach? is overnight parking cool for scb. the other option seems to be trunk river. anyone have a usefull opinion either way? winds look light for the weekend
jettyjockey18 07-23-2012, 08:25 PM bataan death march...i fished scb week ago saturday night...no joy, beach was crowded...
Death march doesnt sound fun

numbskull 07-24-2012, 12:37 PM The classic area to do this is S Cape Beach. It is large and there is plenty of room to fish. The Waquoit entrance is probably 1/2-3/4 mile down but it empties through very long jetties so you would not be fishing any outflow and I doubt it is worth the full walk to shark fish. I do not know what the parking situation is but I assume it is open at night (whether the Town lot or State lot I don't know).
Trunk river is, by comparison, a much smaller scale place. It is open at night, but the outflow is tiny (think 2-3 feet across and a few inches deep). Probably sharks prowl both places but I suspect your chances for a fish are better at S Cape. I have never done it so I am not sure.
is it crazy to try and do poppy? the place has very limited parking. out of the other 2 choices scb sounds like a better choice. who's really coming. do we have few enough guys to sneak into poppy
fishbones 07-24-2012, 01:36 PM I'm in. I just need to figure out if I have the right gear for it.
rickhern 07-24-2012, 03:25 PM Going to try to make it. If I can, should I bring the kayak to drop some baits out?
bring the yak rick. it only increases our chances. we need some fresh dead eels and some other misc fresh baits - if anyone is fishing friday and gets any pogies, macks, blues. put them on ice

Poppy is doable, but it will require carpooling. Easy to meet at the nearby supermarket and load into cars from there. There are six spots at poppy- If we're there at a reasonable time it should be easy to nab them. But a fallback plan would be required, of course. And if people aren't going to be in it for the long haul (IE leaving before sunrise) it's definitely not the best place to be- I'd go SCB or Cotuit.
I'm hoping to make it- getting over a bug & injury, have to see how I'm doing Friday.
ProfessorM 07-25-2012, 09:09 AM Been absent here. I was going to say Craigville or Dowses as I know guys that do it there But they are locked up after 9 and not sure if they would make a stink if U parked along road. Oregon in Cotuit is good too. Parking for at least 10 cars and along road probably too. I am still going to try to attend but not sure yet

Better decide quick or else we have to find something else for chum.
eelskimmer 07-25-2012, 11:26 AM Oregon Bch is so shallow that at high water you
can wade out 75 yds. With a dropping tide Sat.
Nite you would be walking your bait out about a
1/4 mile. At Trunk you can chum in the outflow and
have it carried out for you also lots of parking.
eelskimmer 07-25-2012, 11:32 AM As a matter of fact if you don't like
Trunk how about Menauhunt outlet
from Great Pond. Lots of good parking
and easy to get to from Rt 28 via
Teaticket and Maravista Rd.
in the interest of making a decision lets try south cape beach. cotuit will be the backup if scb is all weeded up. i got the fish at scb last weekend.
planning on getting down there at 7:30. lets hope for an improving forcast.
JackK 07-27-2012, 08:53 AM Gonna decide Saturday afternoon. 2.5 hour drive is a bit much for me to get chased off a beach due to lightning :fury:
eelskimmer 07-27-2012, 03:23 PM Niko.
At SCB you going to be out front of parking
lot or to right down by opening??? May
join simply as a student and observer>
There is a parking lot right on the beach.

The state lot or mashpee lot? I assume you are planning on the state lot, but people need to realize there are two side-side access points, but they use different access roads.
there is a large paved lot off great oak rd that is right on the beach. i do not know if it is the state lot or the mashpee lot. right now the forcast is calling for 20% chance of thunderstorms and light winds out of the north.
sounds like a dozen guys are in. line of showers coming through conn now but should be gone by the time we get down there. see everyone down there

chefchris401 07-29-2012, 02:12 PM Really wanted to go, but the almost two hour drive and the pouring rain at my house and weather forecast, I stayed in and wrapped a new rod instead, and drank a few breckinridge vanilla porters.
