Its the same 1994 30hp merc direct inject 2 stroke. I got the thing running mint for about a month or two. My dad took it out the other day and it stalled out on him. HE got it running again and the next morning i went out for a cruise. She turned over just fine but was missing badly. I was only going about 10 knots at full throttle, with a very bad sputter. I made it back to the dock with the trolling motor. I pulled the plugs and they look good, but i wasnt getting a consistent spark. Might it be the plug wires? I ordered a set as it is a cheap possible fix. Any other ideas as to a possible culprit?

drain some gas into a clear glass container, let it sit.

Most likely contaminated fuel.....

If the fuel is clean, check the wires. If they are original, replace them. One way to check for bad wires is run it in the dark with the cover off. Sometimes you can see the wires arcing (blue spark) to the block. Sometimes you can hear it snapping during the day. The other is to grab on to the wires with your hand and turn her over, if you get a jolt, you know your wire is bad but if you have a bad heart or a pacemaker I would not try this.

A friends motor was running poorly one night and I pulled the cover...it looked like a light show.

Im going to pick up the plug wires tomorrow after work. The fuel better be good. It was new 3 weeks ago and treated with seafoam. I filled a water bottle with it and it was good looking stuff and the fuel filter was nice and clean. I might look for the light show tonight. Thats a good idea.
