My bet would be on a skisher getting it first...

The best part is how the Cape Cod Times, every time they run a story on a shark sighting, mentions that the last shark fatality was at mattapoiset 80 years ago.....but fail to mention there were no seals and hence no sharks over that 80 years.

Each year there are more sharks and they show up earlier. Everywhere else they show up and there are people, there are attacks. Hard to imagine it will be different in our little paradise.

Race Point and Wood End have a lot of seals now too, wait till they come inside the bay!

The guy that was interviewed at the end of the peice said "Most shark attacks don't result in death".

Hear the Greg Skomal talking about the sharks. Someone asked him if the sharks could be found inside the bay. His response was "Sharks *will* be found wherever the seals venture. Have you ever seen seals in the bay?"

That had everyone concerned rather quickly.

Keeping his comment in mind, I'd have no doubt that those white sharks have been in that water between wood end and long point that's 80' deep within about 100 yards of shore.

Now everyone else will start feeling the ills of the seals that fishermen have been dealing with for 5-6 years.

2 weeks ago there were 2 seals on the bayside in Dennis. between cold storage and crowes pasture. Seals were also haning out at a few spots in plymouth most of the winter/early spring.

Seen seals on Duxbury too. They are already up here.

wasn't the there a Great white caught in the bay on rod and reel about 10-15 years ago. Northern CA, and long island have had them forever. Its getting blown out of proportion here by the Boston Media for "Panic Raitings" won't be long before Fox news Tries putting the Blame on President Obama.

If you have had the chance to hear Greg talk, you have heard him say the great whites are around because of the increasing numbers of Gray seals, not the harbor seals that have been on the outside of the Cape for years.

I heard a story a few years ago about a guy fishing in Wells Harbor in Maine at night. He was fishing on the big flats inside the harbor, two seals came swimming in and hauled out in the marsh. A big fin followed them and swam around the harbor for a while, just looking. Kinda made the guy think differently about wading very deep. Maybe just a story?

SW Corner, a couple of trips ago we caught a big grey seal on a down bait. We thought it was a shark until it surfaced and gave us a WTF look. They are friggin strong....pushed the reel beyond strike on an 80 Penn and it still was taking line. Had another come up right at the transom when the current was ripping and relax there on his back for a while.....thought he was going to come aboard. Last year there was a group of about 1/2 dozen on Hangmans Island in Quincy Bay....one big horse headed male and a bunch of females.

Read my wrap up post in the kayak forum. I can't type all that again. But I was between Wood End and RP when it happenned.

2 years ago I was bluefishing off oregon beach at low tide.........walked out a few hundred yards in my waders. Was fishing within almost arms reach of 2 other guys. Guy to my left had 2 blues tied to his wader belt...both fresh n bleeding. As I was casting I saw him get "yanked" back about 2 feet. I looked right at him and he pulled up the 1.5 blue fish he had left. That was a super scary feeling.
