I heard there was a single boat accident and one person died near Boston light. I went right by there today...

What the hell happened ???
Lifejackets?? Radio?? Flares??
I think they were in the water for quite a while too.

Anyone know what/how this happened ????

According to a story in the Ledger, the boat was hit broadside by a wave, then overturned by a second wave. It happened at the Shag rocks.

No one was wearing their life jackets. There was a small craft advisory.

I must have turned around right in front of them. Got just about to boston light and it was cold and wet ( not rain ). Headed back through the gut and the point allerton boys were headed out lit up like a christmaqs tree. I must say everyone did a good job as far as radio procedure goes. I've read stories were in situations like this the emergency personnel couldn't communicate because of all the chatter.

I was stoped by the 22 foot boat out of point Allerton sunday AM.
Just wanted to see my papers and safety stuff.
All was ok.

Its a real shame. I was out with my fishin buddies just outside hull gut. we must have left just before the incident took place. You could see some huge breakers out there. It looked nasty.

I think it was "Joe" who just spoke of the dangers involved in fishing in Northeast winds. Yesterday Charlestown Breachway would be flat calm one minute, the next minute three 8 footers would come crashing in.

The thing that gets me is there is NO FISH worth risking your life for. If the ocean is bad I turn around and stay inside or go home. Save it for another day.

Thirty years ago when my father (rip) bought our first boat, the old timer at the shop looked me square in the eye, pointed his finger and said in a crusty old voice "RESPECT THE SEA".

You're absolutly right about the fish thing. The ocean itself wasn't terrible. It wasn't great either 3 -4 ft and steep. But around those rocks was a whole different story. I don't care how good the fishing was I wouldn't have taken my boat anywhere near it.

I was up in that area today as well. Started to go through Hull Gut but decided it best to stay inside. This was more of my first shakedown run of the season. Nasty day out there so I decided to put it back on the trailer after running it through its paces. Shag was where I was headed if I was going to get out.
Not worth the risk. Bad way to start the season.

Funny you said that Van, when I bought my first boat my uncle said the same thing ...respect mother nature. I was fishin Cape Cod Bay this mornin and there where some pretty big rollers out there out of the NE, I was about two miles out and can you beleive there was no more then a 12' out there:smash: F'in NUTTS!!.... two guys had three coolers on board plus tackle....Sue-is-Side

I was out yesterday early, and I went right past the shag, it was swelly, but not dangerous in open water, I was not going anywhere near rocks with crashing waves like that. Came back in around noon when it started POURING !!!
