Anyone have any information whether personal experience or acquaintance-related on fishing in/off Punta Cana?
Heading down shortly and possibly booking a charter....or getting on a Pirate ship, which-ever's more exciting :devil2:
Even a bottom-fishing bus tour will do...not really looking to over-spend the actual stay. :buds:

I was down in Punta Cana a few weeks ago with my family. I did not book ahead of time as I wanted to check out the fishing scene. This is what I found....At every resort they have fishing boats moored. Some of the boats looked decent, but many looked very tired. There were decent sportfishing boats, though. The gear on many of the boats is not what you would expect from a sportfishing charter (Penn 114's - no Internationals). Anyway one day I saw them bring in a white marlin and three mahi-mahi. Other boats only caught mahi. I made the decision not to spend my money to just catch a few mahi.
I do know that there is a marina called Cap Cana. I am sure that you will get a better experience by booking a trip on a boat there. I did not go, but from what I can see on the web, it looks like a real marina with a much better experience and more like what you would expect from a charter.
I always wanted to be a pirate....go for the pirate ship but bring your fishing rod just in case you get bored with all that pillaging and such!
