Once upon a time, I saw a picture of this fabled narrow wooden walkway. Alas, it is nowhere to be found. I did review the prior thread on bass stands and viewed the three illustrations, one of the Cuttyhunk stand. I also reviewed the Complete Book of Striped Fishing by Lyman and Woolner to no avail.

Has anyone ever seen the Squibnocket Bass Stand picture? All that is left is two thin rusted remnants of the steel rods driven into the rocks.

Thats pretty much all thats left of any of the stands in the places I fish...

I think someone should rent a gas powered core drill and re build a bass stand to original specs.

Yeh - harder to make it thru one season than one thinks

We have a few Bass Stand T-bars here in Newport that are in still decent shape. At one time Newport/Middletown had around a dozen stands or so. S-Bass.com member CraftyAngler had all sorts of historic photos of Bass Stands from various locations that he digitally remastered/restored.

I wouldn't want to be on that stand in rough weather! It does't look very sturdy.

I think there were two...

The first time I walked out to the area of and beyond the bass stand yout referring to on the "death march" was during the derby in 1973. More of the steel was still there at the time. Walking by it then I didn't truly grasp or understand the nature of the stand and who might have used it. As someone else posted a picture from Bob Post's book, it would probably be helpful reading his book to get a better idea about the stand itself.

i have an old saltwater sportsman and it has an interview with bud oliver and he is fishing off the stand, it is 1956 i think, awesome article

How about the moon island pier. Started fishing on that in the mid 60's. What a piece of $hyte that was. Bunch of pilings with a board or two to tightrope out on. Now that was a bass stand. Caught a lot of nice fish on that thing though. Nice ambience with all the ex cons, cooking soup in hub caps............. I miss the place.
