Finally got the boat back in the water. Looking to pick up a couple of spinning setups on the cheap.

Use:

Slinging plugs from 1-3 oz / eels.
Rod no taller than 7' - prefer 6'6".
Reel must handle braid.
Range $150 for the rod reel.

Any suggestions?

For that price range; Shimano Spheros 5000 and an Ugly Stik Tiger rod.

I second BigBo's suggestion! I use a Spheros 5000 and a Ugly Stick Tiger Lite from my yak and its a great setup!! The Tiger should work nicely for eels!!:uhuh:

Penn battle 5000 and tica striper rod...

I've gone from throwing eels to pencils to throwing a 8/0 weighted treble snagging pogies...

reel handles braid and it's built like a tank.. little heavier then the spheros 5000.

I don't use the ugly stick, but love the Spheros 5k for the boat, perfect with braid and lightweight.

For cheap spinning rods you cannot beat the Ugly sticks. I have 3 or 4 that I have had since the Lady Jeanne II in 2006. Still in use and no issues. Used mostly for throwing plugs to bluefish.
