What's the problem with the "running boards" and inspection?? Any other issues that would keep it from getting an RI sticker? Thanks.

If the running boards need to be removed/repaired before inspection are the rockers full of rust?

I talked to my mom about the rust and inspection. I guess the MA laws are very strict on visible rust. When it failed she took it to a mechanic who covered the spots with metallic tape and painted them the same color as the body and it passed inspection. I asked her to take some more pics and shoudl have them later today. I am not sure how strict the RI inspeciton rules are. Her understanding was that as long as those lower panels are relaced it would be good to go, she just didn't want to deal with it and she already had palns to buy a new truck anyway.

The truck runs 100% as she just took it up to Maine to visit family (5+ hour ride each way) and it was fine. The truck is currently off the road as she bought a new vehicle.

I have always found it interesting about rust in Massachusetts. You'll fail for having it, but cheap metalic tape gets the vehicle passed. And the tape doesn't need to be painted. On the vineyard you could sell that car as new probably. Is this a one-owner mom-mobile? If so it might be a great catch for someone.
