View Full Version : Bonito Tunabreath 08-08-2012, 07:03 PM Anyone come across bonito yet between vineyard and cape? Tunabreath 08-13-2012, 07:34 AM Well I'll share what Ive been hearing. Bonito still solid just south of the vineyard and on the Nantucket bars but nothing substantial north of these areas, though there has been action reportedly in eastern LI sound. Mr. Sandman 08-13-2012, 08:11 AM It was gangbusters for a couple weeks, very nice fish too. It has slowed a little but they are still around in numbers. Frankly, I am already tired of them, waiting on albies now. Inside, a much slimmer pick. They are being caught (even a couple from shore) but nothing like outside. Don't waste your time inside (yet), but they will come inside. dense schools of 4" sandeels are what they are feeding on just offshore. Tunabreath 08-13-2012, 11:33 AM wow, I'd love to be tired of catching bonito Mr. Sandman 08-13-2012, 01:00 PM Be just south of the islands at daybreak with a deadly #^&#^&#^&#^& or crystal minnow, it is pretty much a sure bet. Tunabreath 08-18-2012, 06:47 PM small blues and other than that the proverbial finless brown Goose 08-18-2012, 10:20 PM Lots of bones out there today Mr. Sandman 08-19-2012, 06:03 AM albies starting to show now...but I have not caught one yet. Maybe today. Bigcat 08-19-2012, 02:52 PM Done a lot of miles and burnt a lot of gas,got the skunk not even a rat blue. :wall: Mr. Sandman 08-19-2012, 05:20 PM 1st albie of 2012 for me! (got 2 today along with 7 footballs) numbskull 08-19-2012, 06:06 PM How far out? ProfessorM 08-19-2012, 07:31 PM awesome. I can't wait for them to get close enough to use a tin boat to get em. Just finished up a new bunch of metal to throw at them too. Tunabreath 08-20-2012, 08:58 AM Sandman, south or north of mv Mr. Sandman 08-20-2012, 06:09 PM Was out all day again all day today....they were pretty darn thick I got a few even a couple 14+# fish. They are swiming with the tuna and feeding on squid like no tomorrow, squid all over the boat. All are double digit fish. Only 2 school tuna today but a boatload of fun with the albies. I was about 8-10 miles southeast of the hooter. I know they got a few out of the hooter today in the morning early, not a lot were caught there but they were caught. Howerer the bonito fishingis insane there right now. Big fish too. I could hear them on the radio doubles triple hookups. One boat I think had 22 fish during a single charter. ALso there are a ton of bass out there, not to mention a steady pick of bluefish. But the bonito fishing is as hot as it gets. PRBuzz 08-30-2012, 05:50 PM Found my first bonito today, actually got 2! Thanks Mr. S for the intel. Glad we got an early start, smooth as glass heading out and until about 10am, then the SW'er kicked in big time. Couldn't hook up with an albie but saw them busting under the birds. JackK 08-30-2012, 05:59 PM Are bonita fish big?
