Scott-

Thanks so much for sending these interesting plugs.

I had a chance to throw the bottom one straight into a 10 knot NE wind...and the thing cast like a freakin' bullet...into a school of hungry bluefish. I wasn't going to waste a plug trying to catch them razorlips...but I noticed they make a nice splash when they hit the water and gurgle when retrieved - I can see how the would attract the attention of a pelagic from the boat. Who the hell needs diamond jigs. :D

I'll have to wait until this fall to test them on tuna (if I'm lucky enough to get a chance) but in the meantime I'm sure there are top water applications for this plug at the Ditch.

Saw some toonaBombs at the MSBA show very impressive. Whats more is the quality built into the plug and they are hefty.
Look foward to seeing a pic of "toona" with a bomb in the corner of its mouth

How much do they weigh?????

More than 3 oz is my guess. The plugs pictured are different weights, just going by feel.

Been away in northerm Maine on work this week, the toona bombs are 3.5 oz with 3x strong hardware and VMC PS 8/0 hooks on the rear. I've tried to make these the strongest possible so they handle large fishies :)

These in the pic are round 1 from the winter, the new one's have hackle dressed hooks with nice flash.
Final colors are as shown and also have added pink mackeral, and i'll post when they're available on the site.

Nice looking plugs. Do you have any other color schemes? I found the best lures for the small tuna last year all had one thing in common: Light underbellies and dark tops. I'd order a couple if you had some really contrasting color schemes.

Can't get much more contrasting than blue over silver or Olive over silver :D

i donated one of these beauties to a bluebastage this weekend. :( the finish held withouta hitch for about 30 or 40 fish before i lost her. the only thing i am gonna do to the others i have is put some epoxy on the thread for the tail feathers. it only lasted through the first few fish. i gotta say, i am very pleased with this plug. i originally got them for those super windy days when i need to really get the plug out in a strong head wind, but it is just a great popper! if you ever get around to doing some more, could you add a belly hook?

Toby, glad to hear you liked them, sorry you lost one to a toothy bastage :( I will probably do some more this winter, and they'll have the new finish on them which stands up much better than the epoxy. I've been on a quest for the ultimate finish for a long time and finally found it.

I been using Loon "hard head" on the bucktail wraps for a long time, and it's about the best I can find anywhere for strength and durability. Darn bluefish rip the daylights outta the things though :(

I been making the same plug in a "seagar" popper for some time now, but not loading it like the toona bombs. 2.5 oz instead of 3.5
