Anyone have suggestions on when NH has the best colors on the trees?

Have a groupon getaway for the wifey and I to Laconia an want to book it ASAP.

Any suggestions on restaurants, things to do and see would also be a huge help.

Thanks-Chef

It depends year to year on Rainfall and temps....the news will usually give foliage reports when the season gets near....I was up in NH this past weekend and they were just starting to change

I agree Columbus day weekend is usually close to peak in the NH lakes region... the higher elevations and further north locations are showing great early color now. I saw some pictures from the NE Kingdom in Vermont on Sunday and the color was excellent already

10/15 is peak leaf peeper time
temps force the chlorophyll out of them leaves
so when the weather report sounds off a thermo DIP
right afta that -> BAM
leaves look 50%-75% better with the sun shining thru them

I am in Rangeley Maine right now, it is absolutely peak here, I would Laconia now or next weekend would be peak
The reds are intense this year, been some time since I've seen it this intense.

Water levels are very low and the water is continued to be warmer than normal for this time of year.

I guess that's one of those private forums where you need a special password to get in? Is this so you guys can have your own place to talk about leaf peeping and rainbows?

VisitNH : Foliage Tracker (http://www.visitnh.gov/4-seasons/fall-harvest/foliage/foliage-tracker.aspx)

Good map from NH state gov that shows foliage vs dates for 2012

Red Arrow Diner in Manchester. May be considered somewhat of a tourist trap because a lot of celebs like Adam Sandler go there but I thought the food was good and the kids get a kick at sitting at the counter. Make sure to tell them you are a first timer. Pretty extensive menu online.

Columbus Day weekend is tradional fall foliage time and for all the obvious reasons, it's a busy weekend. Better to go mid-week if you can.

I was told it's ok as long as you keep your eyes closed and imagine the other person is a girl.

I would say in the next week would be a safe bet. Take her on the sunset dinner cruise on the Mt. Washington (if they still offer this?) and The Castle in the Clouds :)
