I was fishing in Ganset today, there were fish breaking all over the place for a while. Im launching my egg out to a few breaking albies and i see a shark swimming about 100 yards off shore. I have seen them out on boats and once in the canal but not along the shore in RI. I was really hoping that i would have hooked up with something i would have let it swim around. I dont know what kind of shark it was. The dorsal was about 8" above water, not sure how much below. It was rounded on the top. It looked more brown than grey but i cant be sure on the color. Any ideas...

I guess it could have been. Usually there fins flop around a bit, i didnt even consider a sunfish. There is so much life down there right now.

Was it moving fast? Sharks swim a lot faster than sunfish.

Sharks were not uncommon catches in gansett many years Ago...

It was moving at a decent clip. It was in site for about 3 minutes then it went around the corner. I was thinking a blue shark since they are pretty common, but i know makos are pretty fond of blues and albies. I was talking to a retired charter boat guy out of Galilee and he was saying that he caught quite a few blue dogs right off the west wall back in the day. It really could have been anything.

I was talking to a guy down there yesterday that saw a few dolphins. Maybe thats what you saw

Tons of bay anchovies everywhere in Gansett. The fish were tough to catch except for the small blues. They were blitzing in an area for the whole day. I lost count after about 30

Been seeing alot of seals down in Gansett recently. Ive never seen them up that close in personal before besides on Block. They were very curious came about 5ft away from the rock i was perched up on.

I met a old timer from Charlestown a few weeks ago ....&& he was showing me some of his photo.s
He said he is the 1st responder for Mystic A. for south county when someone calls & reports a mammal .. ie seals , dead whale , etc . At the time he said in 2012 he had already gone to 38 calls .
He then showed me photos of seals cubs >>>>>>>>>> They are mating & producing their young in RI ......GREAT:smash:
