I had a pretty good day yesterday.

Went to the herring run and got some baits, put them in my quickly made cooler/live baitwell (thanks Chuck C).

Went out to Long Island for the derby, with my son.
The herring stayed alive just fine. Took them to the water and into the laundry basket I made up last year. We threw them out
on bobbers. Fished for over an hour, then at high tide BAM...down goes my bobber, he made a good run then stopped. I left the runner on, wait, wait, wait, then off he goes again. Slam the bait runner off and set em' hard...FISH ON !!!!

It was not huge, only about 27-28" but my largest so far this season. Unhooked, revived and released while all the kids looked on.

5 minutes later my son has a pick-up, the fish is screaming the baitrunner, wait, wait, wait,,,,,SET IT.....FISH ON ! he yells, but that one was not on good enough,, few seconds and bye bye fish.

Oh Well, he re-baited, and threw another out. DAD,, he yells look! A fish is beating the crap outta his bait, slapping it, pulling it around, slapping it again, but would not eat it. Maybe the bass was too small I said. Little while later, I got another hit, but no pick-up. We left shortly after, not a bad day......We were gonna go again today, but guess what.............:af: :af: :af: :( :( :(

More good news though while we were fishing I could see birds working and fish splashing in the harbor (same spot as last year FW and BC know), so guess where I'm heading to in the boat this week?????:D

Christian,
Yes it has started. You don't have to get permits this year, they give them out daily. So no one should be left out.
They were not measuring fish yesterday, it will start noxt weekend. Don't miss the cookout.

Macojoe,
Tuesday looks good for boating weather. I am planning to be on the water all day.

Been some really nice fish caught around the cribbin on Sat. and Sun. morning. They were caught on the East tide early, get a canal tide chart it is a must. As I am sure most of you know tides changing East at day break are usually the best tides of the year for plug fishing. Go thru the chart and circle them for the upcoming months. They were eating mackeral plugs on the surface. Some of the fish were upwards of 28 lbs. Not many people there but plenty of nice fish. Not sure what this wind will do to them for the future tides this week. Good luck. P.M.

We were both pretty sleepy believe it or not. However he was the more lively of the 2 of us. I drove to rt 128 and he took over from there. I was pooped, and I now am getting a head cold.

Moose Knuckle,

Of course you didn't catch a @$@@#$@# thing. You are a member of Team Sea Monkey. Sea Monkey's can not catch fish. My advice, less alcohol and well you know, a new group to fish

Glad to hear the first leg was a success as usual. Sorry I missed it, but life is too crazy right now. I think I'll have to be happy to get out for a few hours locally for now. Once its nice, I'll try to get my oldest daughter out of the house with me and maybe that will buy me some more time on the water.

John, did the wife inquire with you about a weekend at the Cape? I think its the 28th we are planning to go down... Let me know if you guys are interested. We'd like to see you guys.

Van, I've been out on the harbor for the past couple weekends. There are some fish around, buts its still pretty spotty from what I've seen and heard. Alot of radio chatter with people wondering where the fish were.

I skipped the early launch Saturday b/c low tide was a little after 6am, so I launched around 7am so I'd have some moving water. There were birds and bait and some fish in the main channel by the airport, but too many boats and I only got a couple of bumps.

Once we had some water, I moved over to the Neponset River and fished the mudflats at the mouth. There were alot of fish up in the shallow water and I was seeing swirls and casting to them. Caught a few schoolies... I moved a bit further up the the river and found the same thing on another mudflat, but the fish were a little nicer and I landed maybe 5 more, with back-to-back 26" and 29"ers on topwater to end the day. That was my first keeper of the season and I was having flashbacks to Florida 'cause the fish thought it was a tarpon. It thrashed around on top for several seconds before jumping twice then making a really nice run... it was a really hot fish.

Most fish came on bass assassins before I switched to a chug bug.

I marked alot of fish and bait in the Back River as well, so it seems like some fish have moved in... hopefully the bigger fish are out there as well.

I was so happy to be out Saturday in just a long sleeve shirt in the am, then the sky fell yesterday. What a nasty day. I'm so sick of my looking at the inside of my house.
