WESTPORTMAFIA 12-06-2012, 09:52 PM TDF What's up? Getting hungry over here. Let's get some dates in mind. BTW the take home smelt that didn't get eaten (the bigger ones) made awesome pike bait. Also need a place to stay this year. We want to fish 2 tides and crash.

I want some in a frying pan, too. I'm not so sure he's being very safe cooking them sideways like that, though. The oil could spill out and burn someone.
Does anyone go smelting locally anymore? I remember as a kid going off the docks in Hingham, I think. Or maybe weymouth?
i still do some smelting locally. it's a shadow of what it once was sadly. but some years are still decent. tried a new spot this year and did surprisingly well during the day, nice to be smelting and not be cold for once in my life

It surely is not... we used to catch as many as we cared to clean off of the Salem wilows pier and docks in beverly .. borad day light and a swedish pimple tiped with sea worm...
I spent many a night on the exeter river catching enough each trip for several meals... last year.. the ice never was safe on the exeter...
The Dad Fisherman 12-19-2012, 10:19 AM They can still be had at the Beverly and Salem piers. I used to catch them in Lynn harbor off the docks when I was younger.
I've been thinking of giving it a shot on the base lately...thinking it might be good right about now

Turn your computer sideways. They were cooked on the kerosine heater that heats up the shanty. Our shanty smelled like a kitchen on Fed Hill.
