Here are some of my first few attempts. Sort of a hodge podge right now as i am just finally settling into trying to make a particular plug work well instead of just work. Have had some flops and ones that I am very pleased with.
Attachments L to R:
First Batch - nothing spectacular
Second Batch - Eeelies are decent
Third Batch - Eeelies are better, parrot swimmer on the far right was my favorite
Still trying to get my testing process down to fine tune but at least when they suck they still look cool on the wall of the basement ;)

Wasnt expecting much with these but was pleased that they "swam" in something other than a barrel roll type fashion.

Along comes ghetto home-made duplicator

And finally some consistency to play with. The ones on the far left got a tad skinny in the tail while I was dialing in the duplicator but swim kinda neat. The middle dannys swim really nice.

Neat.
Try this. Take that pink and orange shape in the third picture (I like the taper to the head on that one), mount a mid slot lefty2 lip but cut the slot above midline so the bend is just a touch below the chin of the plug. Bend the line tie down. Weight the plug a bit behind midpoint so it floats a bit deeper than midline, probably will take 12-15grams (you'll likely need to drill through it). Now test the plug, it will be unstable but should have a slow wide wobble and run just a touch subsurface as long as you don't rush it (if it will do a barrel roll with a twitch you are good). Fish it day or night as slow as you can stand. All white or all purple are best, no eyes (too much roll). Hang on.

Very nice looking plugs. I used a similar dupe for a couple of years and once you get used to using it they work great. You might want to consider talking to ProfM about the cutting tools he makes with the replaceable cutting insert that they use on the vegas instead of using the chisel it made a huge difference once I made the switch.
