Lookin' for a long thin metal lip design type of thing. I am thinkin' Woody or BT/Chris may have something along this line. (like something in Chartreuse for Cutty Chris?) Any and all info, picks, design details will be greatly appreciated. Bob Huddy

Yes.... 7" eelie shape is a great plug... do a search on Numbskull and eelie. he posted all the specs a few yrs ago.

There is the standard Pichney eelie. I've fished the BM version and didn't like it. It is a surface swimmer.

There is a rare Musso eelie. I made some sight unseen copies a few years ago that run deep, cast like crap, and supposedly catch fish but I never use them. I think that is the plug BT is referring to. Turns out mine was larger than the original when I finally saw one, but it is an OK plug in its own right.

There is a Rockfish eelie that he posted dimensions on somewhere. I think Lefthook sells a version of this plug. Joe and others swear by it. I think it runs subsurface.

There is a plug of mine I call the skinny donny. Search under my name and "skinny" (and oxymoron if there ever was one). You will see what it can do, but the guy fishing it has to believe and be patient, it is very unstable and won't work at anything above a crawl.....which is very hard for most guys to tolerate.

There is also the Masterlure straight eel. Habs made a version (the Stykx?) and Josh had success with it. Can't say I caught much with mine, but the Habs version looks worth a try.

The eely joe rockfish made is sick.

Seasons ago, I added a small tail weight to add in casting, I never did much on em, but my buddies slay fish on em.

The version that i make does very well on the North Shore/cape Ann off the rocks in Bone white... Brian O'Connor slays with this plug... it is the Musso style version

I have a design of a diving swimmer. It's a super slim pike. 8", 3oz. This is my swap plug this year.

Actually I think it is a copy of Joe's although I have not handled either.

Pichney's is a thinner surface plug with a longer concave tail and more forward belly section that uses a much smaller lip with a lower slot. Joe's (and LH's) have a skinny musso shape and use a high slot lefty lip that takes them subsurface where the length of the plug slows their action, something large fish like. Pichney did make an eelie with a slope head, Paul had one, but I've never seen one anywhere else and I don't think it used a high slot lip to get depth but don't remember clearly.

I have to say out of all the plugs I have made based on ideas and plans I gathered here, that friekin eelie dances the most sexy on retrieve through any water that I cast.

side views and the belly hook location in pencil line, don't mistake the hook swing. Wgt. seems to be in middle of largest dia. part of plug, somewhat forward. Last pic is some I made a few years ago. Also lip on the real Pichney Eely is much wider than others. Lips seem to me to be small lefty style lips in all the others, BM and Pichney's.
I have to honest I was less than thrilled with these lures. No confidence in them they really didn't impress me,swim wise . I think if I was going to fish an area that I would want to throw one of them I would choose a needle. Just my opinion.

Here are the specs on the Eely's. I hope you can see and if you can't just ask and I will tell you dim. you can't read. I know they are somewhat crude and hard to decipher but I can help you out if you need the info. P.

Could save a lot of time and $ by just spray painting and loading a few redfins ;)

I do have me a bunch o' Redfins in a bunch of colors. One of my favs from my Jersey days. Just looking for something a little bit longer and maybe a tad wider. In wood!

I hear ya. All the thinner wood swimmers I've tried have not produced anywhere close to a finish style swimmer or needle, depending on conditions. Very niche style plug IMHO.

Only plugs I have posted were Beachmaster Schoolie clones and Gary2 Skinny clones. Both are long and slenderish. The Schoolies dive a few feet, but the Skinny is a surface to subsurface lure. I will post some pics of a new design soon. A bit fatter, but a versatile plug.

Nice looking plug there. Also, I have to say I do like the left hook eelys too. I picked one up at the end of last season and took a few fish on it.
