Last trip out I stuck myself with a fillet knife, again... bled like a pig. My basic first aid kit did the job,, barely.

So this year I'm gonna buy a bigger water proof container and add some necessities to it, such as cloth tape and cloth band-aids...what else have you added founding out the hard way.

I have a red rag in my back pocket and some hockey tape. Manley's and a fillet knife if I have to do major surgery on the spot. :rotf2:

Super glue... seals up bloody wounds and stays flexible enough to keep you fishing
Alcohol and Peroxide - for the car, but worth it if it comes to it... sand, salt, dirt, rust... clean that crap out of there

Peroxide, butterfly bandages, sanitary napkin (for bad cuts) scissors, tweezers and a pint of good alcohol :buds:

Make sure the super glue is an unopened one. Otherwise it will harden in the tube.Rolled guaze bandage -cling as some call it- and seran wrap work great to cut down bleeding on bad cuts.A trick learned in the service.

Pocket CPR mask, Aspirin for heart atks. A few packs of wipes, gauze, plastics wrap and duct tape.

Pain pills, imodium, neosporin, bandaids, hand sanitizer, tape, crazy glue. If that cant take care of it off the the ER i go.

Yeah, I agree, superglue works wonders. I also had Smokey dress a braid cut that was nearly down to the bone on my index finger, then cut up a heavy duty dish glove for a finger-cot and taped that over it.

I was fishing 10 minutes later.

I also agree with the single sided razors and mini bolt cutters.

Small packs of antibiotic ointment or Vaseline.They also help to stop bleeding.

One night last spring at the canal I was digging around in my car for my headlamp and "found" a box cutter blade I didn't know I was missing. I found it when the corner stuck me in the knuckle to the bone. Luckily I was with Timmah and he had one of his wife's feminine pads in the car. I wrapped it up and put duct tape around it. Worked great till it started raining and it fell off. Super glue worked great to close it up and once it was dry, a paper towel and good 3m medical tape were the only thing that worked. Shoulda went and got a few stitches, but the bite was too good to leave.

At a minimum I would have, Gauze, alcohol wipes, super glue, good medical tape (not dollar store crap, ask me how I know) duct tape, a 2 pair of disposable gloves and benadryl

3M medical tape is a must have for those braid cuts into 4hr water soaked raisin like index fingers.....BigWaveDave made a believer out of me on the Block last fall with a roll he had in his Sherpa Pack!

Betadine solution, which is the brown liquid they clean you up with in the ER. Also want to point out it is Crazy Glue you want. Not Super Glue. Don't know the reason why, but the saying in the service was "you'd be crazy to use Super glue.......

Does anyone know if putting crazy glue into an open cut to seal it can cause a nasty infection or not? Im trying to decide what the better option is if i am faced with a cut that probably needs stitches, but am on block or cutty: Glue, or tightly wrapped tape... anyone?

Anyone ever glue a cut closed and then have any complications as a result?

Seen a few bad cuts closed up this way offshore when a hospital was hours or days away. Not exactly plastic surgeon's touch, but it was first done in the field during Viet Nam. ER doc told me betadine was a better cleanser than peroxide.I have used it on myself probably half a dozen times. As a carpenter, I had had more than my share of cuts, most to my hands. Haven't had any infection issues yet, but I try to make every effort to be sure the wound is clean. Works good.

Duct tape is key. No matter how bad the injury, duct tape and other junk laying around the boat will be able to provide "first aid" until you get help from the pros.

Always good to have one of these in your kit. Two are better though.

I have never heard of super glue or crazy glue causing an infection. One good thing is that they are water soluable. It takes awhile, but it does come undone when you get around to having the cut looked after properly. All good rec's above though. I have most of them. Keep them in the truck though. Doesn't go to waters edge. Probably something I should change.

Children's chewable aspirin: because it can be tough to take regular pills when having a heart issue.

Benadryl Quick dissolve strips: for any allergic reaction

Very well organized and they have them in different sizes based on the time to reach medical care. Once a year I replace what was used. It comes in handy every season and it is nice to have the right stuff .

I like the prepackaged kits. You'd spend a small fortune trying to assemble all the stuff you can get for 30 or 40 bucks. I keep one in the car and gave small ones to family members for Xmas this year.

Mine has come in handy for small issues especially when my son manages to get a little bloody out and about.

gloves are nice to have... then some aspirin, benadryl, rescue tape (some call it tommytape). I also have motrin, tylenol, gauze and bandaids. plus some stuff I;m not authorized to use ( I work in the ER) but has saved the day ( and a digit or two) whne there was no other way.........

My first aid kit is a roll of paper towels and electrical tape.
