sure we could have knocked the snow drift down but it was more fun to leave it in place. :grins:

Perhaps I'm reading their info wrong, in the daily forecast they're listing precip amounts but not delineating between rain and snow...

The snow map they have shows everybody getting creamed.

It's gonna do what it's gonna do, and there ain't a bleeping thing any of us can do about it. I wish these talking heads would calm the #^&#^&#^&#^& down. It's winter. It's New England. Sometimes it snows. Sometimes we get a little. Sometimes we get a #^&#^&#^&#^& load. This is news?

Here's another late breaking item. It's gonna melt. Maybe next week, maybe next month. But it's gonna melt. This isn't the herald of a new ice age, for cryinoutloud.

Hype it up, line up the advertiser's, the local supermarket chain, home goods stores selling shovels, snowblowers, etc. and keep everyone hanging with "has the potential", we are watching the "weather models" and keep checking our forecast throughout the next couple of days!!

And as far as the weather models, here is a real weather model, both hot and cold :)

This thing is starting to look like the real deal. Check out the surge and wave projections for Sandwich Harbor...:lurk: The wind speed map for the European model predicts SUSTAINED winds of 57 mph on the cape. Remember to charge up your cameras and phones and (as much as SAFELY possible) get out and take some storm pics, maybe we can have a storm pic thread... I still get pumped for a good storm, but I dread losing power and also the cleanup...:cheers:

Mr. Sandman

I hope it rains. the weather folks are having wet dreams about this thing. One guy said one of the models predicts some towns could get 70+ inches. Personally I think that is irresponsible of them to report what these models say directly. All of these models make physical assumptions and you can tweak them to say just about anything...as my computational fluid dynamics professor said...assumptions are the mother of all phuckups.

Weather is now a full on reality show and the reporters showing cleavage get the highest ratings.

been coming down for a while down here, started very light, but steadily increasing since it started... wind is picking up sooner than I thought...still cold enough for very light (dry) flakes, down here on the rain/snow battle line... as usual, we are to expect mixed precip for a time, but I am a little leery of that... I remember in past storms being so close to the rain/snow line that the difference in the changeover was the rate of precipitation... when the (snow) intensity picked up, it was enough to cool the warmer mid level layer and fall as snow ... I'm wondering if the intensity picks up before that warmer layer can fully work in that it might be enough to fight off the changeover... Looks like some heavier stuff about to work it's way onshore, we'll see what form it takes in a bit...

Power still out, but just saw an Nstar truck out front! It's really nasty out now... Heard the top of a tree or a large branch go, thought it was going to hit the house... Everybody stay safe, think it's going to be a long night and a LOT of cleaning up...

Either there's a chit load of terminators coming in from the future, or I am watching transformers blow up, like dominoes falling. That's the 3rd one tonight, and there goes my power.

it was snowing slowly (7 inches) with not much wind here in hartford county CT up until 8 pm...

Then bang! the last 3 hours have been crazy! high winds, strong snow and wind drifts measured in feet... Dont throw out your backs or burn out your transmissions!

I can't tell how much there is? Just finished the second round of shoveling, about 8" @ 8PM, a foot right now. But with the drifting, hard to tell. Easier to keep up with it than do all of it tomorrow....

Still raging up there. And from the radar it's not over by a long shot.

Still in San Diego. Flight was bumped from Friday am to Monday pm. Family ok, we didn't lose power. I'm dreading the return though as my truck was parked on the roof of Logan parking garage. Ill be lucky to identify the thing.

Got really lucky Thusday night myself trying to get back home from NOLA. Had a flight that was supposed to arrive at 10PM. Ended up having to swap out a plane last minute in DC (second leg of flight). Got home at about 1:30 AM Friday. If the flight had been delayed until Friday AM I'd likely still be in NOLA right now!
