I did a remodeling job over the past year and the house sold as soon as I was done.... Closing is Friday. Seller has asked me to get rid of all paint on premises. I have 30 one gallon cans in various stages of fullness. Most if not all are latex. Do I just pour it in a bin with kitty litter to dry it? I know I can dump it if dried. Any thoughts? Thanks.

If its latex it can all go in the landfill I believe. If it's in big cans I'd mix with something, either litter like you mentioned or sawdust works well. Just so it doesn't make a mess.

Oil based paint is supposed to be disposed of as a hazardous substance.

Environmentally Safer Paint Removal, Restoration and Deck Products (http://www.rockmiracle.com/productlist.asp?cid=7)

water based paints..latex, acrylic, waterborne.. leave the lids off and let them dry up solid..then toss. or if in a rush.. use a product like the above, and toss..

oil base..either go the transfer station in your town.. they usually have a method of disposal, or ther is an annual or semi annual hazardous waste day...or.. get an empty 5 gal bucket with lid.. go about half and half with oil dry till its hard.. bang the lid on..and toss

Yup,open cover on latex and let it dry til it is hard before disposal. Oil based is not so simple...

When living in Mansfield, i took my paint over the border to Easton and dumped it in the woods.

Open lid and fill can with kitty litter if latex. When solid or dry throw in trash. Its legal, I work for a waste company.
If oil based save and wait until Hazardous day to get rid of.

I know a painter that saves all his latex offwhite and makes apartment special stuff. Works great for apts or garages. If you dump it all together it usually ends up some shade of brown.

Kitty litter worked well. Last ones to be dumped today and send her a bill....

I've seen towns have "waste" days. Paints, oils and other liquids are collected and disposed of. Usually see them in the spring but your town hall might have more info

I flagged down our G-man yesterday and asked him. He said you can use kitty litter to dry it out or Lowes sells paint hardener which I understand is a powder you can add which is supposed to quickly harden the paint. Then you can leave it out with the lid off the can and they'll take it.
