So, just curious about what brands are good, looking to mostly use it for tying bucktails and hooks up to 6/0. Budget, budget, budget....lol. And go!

Renzetti traveler is probably the best bang for the buck. I have a Master and a couple traveler saltwater series. my Regals just didn't hold up to all the tying that I do.even now i still tie a few 1000 tail hooks, teaser, flies and jigs a year. The best part with Renzetti is that you can get replacement parts pretty easily from them. The saltwater traveler is around 180.00 apeice. If you want I'll bring one to plugfest so you can see it. Lol. Thanks Don He said budget. If you are doing leadhead jigs most vises are not going to stand up to tons of those.

For big hooks you can get someone to weld a steel rod onto a vise grip and build a very good vise very cheaply.

I like the Regal vice with the big game head.... not very expensive

Here are a couple pics of my Regal holding a 6/0 siwash... I have used it with 7/0s with no problems

I have an old Thompson Pro that I use. Tie Siwash up to 6/0 6X without any problem. Wicked cheap. Around $50 brand new

I went a little overboard with my vise. Made it a true rotary vise, used 3/8 rod and some roller blade bearings. The cylinder is a piece of gas pipe, welded a tab and threaded a ¼” screw as a stop to hold the vise in place so you can use two hands to apply material and use a bobbin. The ¼” screw stops on two nuts that are welded on the horizontal piece of 3/8” rod, on the other side of the vise its being held together by a 3/8” drill stop. It was a fun project, it was made just for tying buck tails, but in this picture you can see that it works with flies too.

Chef, I checked out the saltwater edge's vises, they had a Thompson Model A and a Super AA model, both in my range, but they post no specs on them. Just want to know hook size capabilities. AH, I third that statement....Prof M's vises are rediculous!!

just got one off ebay for $33. Said it was a 360 deg rotating vice with 3 clamp sizes that could handle saltwater hooks. Thanks for the advice as always guys!

Striperman, I normaly order direct as you talk with someone and get what you want instead of what a stock picker finds the easiest. Ron

Just get it at Bears Den, Bill. He has very competitive prices. That is where I get my jaws for my vises. I use Renzetti too.

Please just remember..... this was LAST YEAR. Nothing announced as of yet. And who knows if it will be. He has already built and donated two. Very generous and very talented.

Not this year guys. I did make a couple for people and may have a couple left over for some fun money for me if I get desperate.
