Ran across this the other day, so whats the skinny all you custom rod guru's? Is this the next new big thing, does it only work for smaller lighter rods, or are we all guna be eating each other alive over getting these things next year for our surf outfits?

Interesting... Line is on a two way street. What happens when reeling in with bend in the rod, under load? Would like to see that video. Braid friendly?

I thought I remember reading that they weren't coming in sizes suitable for surf rods yet.

As of right now it's mostly designed for small freshwater Japanese bass blanks.

A few different rod building groups have done some testing and the results have been great. Longer and more accurate cast.

The guy who invented the guides also invented/designed the wave reel. He's got some good ideas.

They are suppose to come out with larger sizes eventually for the surf rods.

One issue is a 10ft surf rod throwing 2.5oz creates a lot more force than 6ft rod throwing 1/8oz

Will be interesting to see how it develops

Prototypes have been around for maybe 5 years. its a cool idea but time will tell what applications catch on and if there are any hidden pitfalls. I prefer to let others be the guinea pigs on these exotic ideas.

Looks like it would work just like the pencil sharpener opening in a Zebco33.

Depending on the wattage of your particulat microwave, you have to be careful. I've burned microwave popcorn because I put it in for the recommended time on the package, but it cooked much faster.

Prototypes have been around for maybe 5 years. its a cool idea but time will tell what applications catch on and if there are any hidden pitfalls. I prefer to let others be the guinea pigs on these exotic ideas.

Mike I'm in the process of building a Century 1025 using these guides for the build. After looking at them, no way would I build a big rod with them, but they look to be perfect for what i'm doing. If I can get the rod built I may bring it with me to Rissa for people to check out. My Ci 4000 Stradic should be a great match for this rod.

Hooker rods sent something out last year on this... will be interesting to see where this goes.

The marketing is tough for the custom builder as well - the guides are only available as a set - if you want single foot guides towards the tip, you throw away the extra microwaves - or save them for making popcorn!

It's like a new Windows operating system; you never really want to have it until all of the bugs have been worked out.

What is the actual "speed" are they referring to?

What is the advantage of the two rings? Wouldn't the line get reduced down to the smaller ring immediately? Why not just have the smaller ring and save the weight? I must be missing something...

Why one ring after the other? Why not just a continuous cone?

looks like the smaller ring attached to the first and largest guide acts like a reducer /it limits and creates a focus before it continues to the second guide and so on ,and this may improve castability but not in a real birds nest when it would just fly out,it will now snag in the guide.
