RIROCKHOUND 03-16-2013, 07:07 PM My picks have to fit the song, without being overly self indulgent. I'm know there are virtuosos with better technical solos, don't care

Raider Ronnie 03-17-2013, 07:54 PM My father took me to see Chuck Mangione back in the mid-late 70s and this guy Grant Geissman blew me away and really changed the way I appreciated different types of music.
In my opinion Chuck's album "Live at the hollywood bowl" is one of the greatest albums ever recorded !
Grant is a huge studio guy so not exactly a household name.

ReelinRod,
Thanks for those links. Brings back memories as I was a huge Genesis fan. That band changed the way I viewed music and shaped my tastes. Need to get Selling England by the Pound on CD.

I saw Mark Knopfler play the Pavilion in Boston about 8 or 9 years ago and the whole show was amazing, but the Sultans of Swing was so good. He went off on that Solo for about 5 minutes and the whole crowd was air guitaring, overbiting, and dancing horribly, at least I was. Such a good tune.
rphud 03-28-2013, 05:47 PM While not my favorite Floyd song, most likely my favorite Gilmore solo starting at 3:17 and going all the way until it just fades away at the very end.

RIJIMMY 04-11-2013, 04:38 PM I love Frank's playing but I always get the feeling that he is syaing to himself "these dummies love stupid guitar wank so I'll give it to them". If you've read his stuff, he is very critical of guitar soloing and thinks its self indulgent. Did he like his playing or is it just a means to prove himself right? Anyone read his autobio?

Around 5:15 is a good Joe Wash solo, but he has some background licks that are good too
short but nice.
Found this disc today and plugged it in coming back from the game. Hadn't played it in a few years. I like cranking this one though some lyrics don't sit well with me while others do....
