Let's hear it from some of the creative minds on this board...

How do you properly dispose of your fish carcasses without dumping them at your local boat ramp???? How can you not offend your neighbors when you toss out remains that are a day or two old??

And no, this does not include dumping remains at a local gas station, dunkin donuts or your most-hated local retailer's place.

For the few fish I keep (only blues) ...

I dig a hole at the end of the garden and throw em' in. Then, mix that dirt into the rest of the garden next spring.

Fillet the fish at home.....fillets in the freezer or fridge......gut the fish, guts go in the garden in a deep hole........frame and head go into a pot with water....fish stock for a chowder, plus a WHOLE lot of meat from the frame/head to make fish cakes with.......any surplus feeds the dog......the remains of the carcass (basically bones) are then already cooked and trash friendly......:)

If I keep a fish, the ENTIRE THING gets used, one way or another.....:)

About 50% of the time I do the bury them in the ggarden thing...the other half of the time they get dumped in the Ocean for the Crabs to get rid of

There is a guy on Block Island who fillets them out then leaves them on the front lawn so people can tell how the fishing is.

I bury them in the garden or fillet them at sea. Nothing like fishparts to kickstart a garden! :happy:

1) Filet stripers, blues, and weakfish in driveway.

2) Take carcasses to stocked trout stream (non-tidal, dammed, well-inland) across the street.

3) Place carcasses in a conspicuous area.

4) Laugh real hard when the trout guys come over and scratch their heads in bewilderment and confusion.

If I filet at the marina, I toss the carcass in the drink for the crabs.
but throw it in deep water so it won't be on the shore at low tide.

If I filet it at home, I snap it in half put it in those plastic shopping bags and freeze it. (in my bait freezer)... Put out in the trash on trash day.

The crabs appreciate the carcasses a whole lot more than the trash people do....

Send it back where it came from.

I dump them out of my system while sitting on a toilet. After I consumed it. After I fillet it, I dump them in my trash can and toss it into a duffel bag and tied it and leave in front of my house for a garbage crew to pick it up on Tuesday. On other hands, my family eats the whole body of a fish and toss the bones away into the trash can. I only dumpy the entrails into the water.

I'm with BM on this,except I put in on their engine block.Just kidding.Back where it came from,the ocean.

Most fish I fillet where I catch them and toss the carcasses to the crabs.

Stripers, I take home whole. No legal issues about fillets being 28" or keeping the rack to be measured. Then, since like GS I live in the woods, I feed the carcass to the local wildlife. I figger it keeps them masked bastage racoons out of my garbage for a few days.

I always bring the bodies back to the water. I think it is disrespectful to despose the remains of a fish on land, in any manor. I don't think there is a big problem with the garden thing, but putting a striper rack in the garbage is sac-religious.

Got Stripers, I must say that the over the fence thing was funny as hell though:)

Plus I like leaving the racks at the loading ramps. It gives the laymen something to look forward to:)

I can't believe that noone grinds it up and freezes it for chum. That's what I'll be doing this year!

tails i loose. Into the garden they go or along a rock wall i dont want chip munks to invade...as they dont like digging in fish tails
i make sure they are buried at least 18' deep...for no skunks!!

heads(frozen) i take fishing with me to attract crabs and baitfish that attract more fish and hopefully blues and or stripers too.

whats wrong with skunks:( I love them and the smell of them is wonderfull.

also don't let law enforcement catch you tossing carcasses in the dumpster or trash can at the boat ramp

thats a big no no (why do you think fish houses have to PAY to have carcasses removed?)

I have a big chest Freezer for just bait and such. I freeze the inner's and the racks in a 5 gal bucket. then the next trip I bring them with me, put some water in the bucket and throw a rack every drift till there is no more. Great Chum!!

become friends with a lobsterman, maybe he'll toss you a few for the free bait some day...
