I normally don't take summer vacations because my entire summer is a vacation . But this summer I will do something that I have wanted to do for the last decade and finally get a chance. I tried a few times before but the stars never aligned for things to work out with schedules and availability. I will be spending a week on Tuckernuck Island (managed to rent one of the houses there) I plan to take my boat over (with a kayak) and moor inside the cove and stay at the cool house on the island. I really want to do some flats fly rod and ultra light sight casting both from the shore and drifting along in a kayak, then grill up my fresh caught meals at sunset with a nice glass of wine as I take in some amazing solitude. I may run offshore for a day or two or even take the wife to a fancy dinner on ACK for a night just to break things up but it should be fun no matter what. It really is not that much different my my normal summer but this is a very cool little island. (I have fished around it often by boat but never set foot on it) I plan to take a lot of photos. It's not very far away but I am really looking forward to it.

It is funny I mentioned it to a some mainland friends and their response was...Why would you want to go there? What is there to do? When I mentioned there was no electrical power and very spotty cell service their eyes rolled. Maybe it is me... I told them that is the very reason I want to go there, I wish I could spend the entire summer there. Maybe someday...

I know a couple of you guys have gone there in the past. Maybe you can give me some tips.

Its an amazing place. Been out near the 4x4 access many summers. folks have been renting out there in madaket since the 70's. I've always wondered what it would be like to live in one of those houses wayyyyy out there on the point or on tuckernuck.

Last summer I saw a resident of one of those houses on tuck taking his personal chopper back to airport, must be nice!!

Unfortunately the seals are overrunning muskeget and has really put a damper on the fishing out there last few years, especially from shore. But you should still have a shot at some fish, its still the go to spot for bones and albies you see small boats stacked up there off the south bar all the time.

Oh and go to the Cisco Brewery, and put your drinkin pants on. Just ask around, Its the farm with cars overflowing down the street, feels like walkin into a concert but its fun and worth it, and the beers are delicious. Fine dining there is plenty of, you can't really go wrong in town, Co. of the Cauldron is really good the old man likes that one the best.
Sounds like an awesome trip, enjoy Sandman!

I fished Tuckernuck for years (boat access) until the seals drove me out. Mostly I concentrated on the S shore, but I have since learned that the North shore near the pond outflow is very good, particularly with a fly rod. There is also good sight fishing by foot at times along the bar that guards the harbor entrance. Neat place. Try to get use of a ATV with the house.
