Getting rid of the old leaky canvass roof and the plastic curtains.
I'm sick of getting dripped on.

Had to drill out/ cut off all the old twist lock and botton snaps.
I filled all the holes with kitty hair then 2 coats of epoxy primer followed by one coat of sem rust shield

This is .080 t6061 sheet aluminum.

Cutting was tricky because I want to fold down the edges 4"
I am going to paint the outside the same color maroon as it was before

I used double sided tape on all the pipes, a paneling joining plastic piece from Home Depot down the middle, and rivots on the edges.
Still have to fold down the sides and front and fabricate & weld up the window frames.

I'm most likely going with safety glass. I want to be able to scrub them or spray RainX on them and not worry about them getting scratched or fading

I'm keeping the 3 plastic roll down windows in the back like a summer back.

interesting choice of materials

Didn't want to be the nay-sayer but being in the materials field, I know that the 6000 series are good for strength, but the 5000 series are the marine grades.

That said, just paint it good and you should be OK..

Here is a picture of how I did it. The white top is fiberglass, all the white moldings are powder coated aluminum and the clear stuff is (obviously) the Lexan. The rear curtain is three piece canvass that I can roll up and get out of the way.

That looks great..my glass guy is bringing me a piece of lexan so I can see what it's like.
maybe I will go with lexan? I am thinking of some sort of piano hinged top, so I can open them and secure them to the inside roof sorta like Ronnie did with the side of his pilothouse.

Is it hot in there MakoMike?
Do you wish they would open?
My center opens now so there will be some air going thru

I have a mix of glass and lexan. They used glass on all flat windows and lexan on the compound curved corner window. The curved ones are now hazed and scratched. I try not to touch them. I called about getting real glass and no one would touch them. I called the manufacture and they said they looked into having them made in glass but they would be over $1000 per window, so they used sheet lexan that you can buy from Home Depot for a few bucks and just replace it every 7 years or so.

I would rather have hard glass myself but it is what it is.

The Lexan has a light gray tint to it. The windshield side windows open so I can get some airflow through the enclosure, it does get hot on very hot days, but Its never gotten hot enough that I have bothered to install a fan behind the windshield.

Maroon will absorb more heat. Why not match the Wellcraft beige in the cockpit?
