Went for a run this morning and for a half mile along the Charles there were herring flopping around next to the shore. I have never seen so many in the Charles before. Looks like the ban on harvesting them is working.

FishermanTim 05-09-2013, 10:17 AM I would be more interested in what was driving them to the shore!!!!! DZ 05-09-2013, 10:22 AM There are so many herring reports this spring that I'm beginning to think that loads of sea herring are mixed with the alewifes in the usual haunts. I know they often mix in the open ocean. Any ideas? big jay 05-09-2013, 01:08 PM We are seeing firsthand the benefits of limiting the catch of the mid-water factory herring ships. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device hq2 05-12-2013, 09:09 AM Yeah, that and closing dipping at the runs, which of course has a huge multiplier effect since those are herring just about (likely) to spawn. Gonna try fishing the Chas this evening for the first time in 10 years, maybe try the Weymouth run this afternoon. Have some Yo-Zuris to work with this time too (didn't 10 years ago), so hoping for a little luck today. RickBomba 05-12-2013, 09:55 AM Yeah, Notaro said they were super thick there on Friday. hq2 05-12-2013, 07:26 PM Went out to Watertown, tossed plugs for a few hours, listened to the Sox get stomped. No luck, didn't see anybody catch anything, a few other folks trying. Fair number of herring in the water. Can't tell if it is what it was a while ago; never saw it until right before they closed it ten years ago. Notaro 05-12-2013, 10:30 PM And I could catch largies under the school of herrings there. Not sure about stripers in the mix, too. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
