Thought this might be interesting info for someone. A friend of mine caught two decent bass the other night and did an autopsy. Instead of what you would normally expect for this time of year, and finding squid or herring, they were totally gorged on green crabs! Anyone out there fishing crabs or green crab patterns for bass?

Are you sure they were Green crabs and not Calico or Lady crabs? The reason I ask is because green crabs are not indigenous to our waters. They've gotten here by hitchhiking rides in the bilges of boats coming from the orient (mostly). I have observed stripers pass over green crabs to instead eat a calico, and I have yet to actually find a real green crab in the belly of a bass. Not saying it's not the case, just that I think they like other inigenous crabs better than green crabs.

It was confirmed, the majority of the crabs in the stomach were green crabs - about a dozen plus 2 small lady crabs.
