BIG Dave is yourman for that, I to have a 7000c3 an If I remember we talked a bit about it. he said it already has what is needed to b a good caster. I have this on a lami 101/2 footer an with a 30z plug I can almost emty the spool, I said almost[90percent] an this is with a stock 7000c3....I keep 20 lb. silver thread on as line. don't see the need to soup her up, works just fine.

Get a handle off an old squidder, preferably with heinous colored swirly torpedo knob. You will have to work the inside of the hole with a needle file to get it onto the axle. Then you will have to get a brass washer with a slightly smaller hole, carve this one to just go over the axle. Put this on first, if you don't the penn handle will work it's way over the shoulder while you have a large fish on. now you have a nice reel with a funky handle. The arm length is shorter. I find it more comfortable. And people say "What kind of reel is that?". Barretts has precision stainless gears, I think they even have higher ratios.....see you on the beach....longshot

where is M&Ds? I have worn the bearings right out of my 7000 and will have to use my squidder til I get it rebuilt{ including precision stainless bearings} I have had it seven or eight years. My advice to you is keep the big white levelwind gear lubed but do not pry it off the dog it sits on. If you wear out that gear you will need a teeny gear puller to remove it without loosening the dog {ask me about my new left sideplate} Christian take out 2 of the four centrifugal brake blocks if you haven't already. you can even take out since they dont need to be balanced. seeya on the beach....longshot

Big dave could write books on tricking out reels...hopefully one day he will.

I wouldn't do much to it. Just make sure you clean it and it is lubricated.

I've debated ceramics for months and months. Not sure they are worth it, but they are pretty cool.

Ron arra's book has a whole section on cleaning and tuning a 7000c3.

Big Dave (pimped ?) or tricked out a reel for me..6500c3ct ..A few of you witnessed it.. He got rid of the clicker and everything that goes with it...In its place a sweet mag kit...Ceramics,, rocket fuel and removed the blocks or brakes... Mags have to be dialed in nice but once you have it let it rip..No Thumb needed at all just on the landing if you can see that far...I don't know about the reel you have but don't go doing anything until you talk to Big Dave...He is the man..pm him..
