Hi Guys,
I just bought a fishfinder/chartplotter for the new boat, and I'm a little worried about it getting wet.

I'll take it off the boat when the boat's not in use, but am a little worried about it getting wet from spray or rain.

I've been trying to find a cover or some sort of plexiglass thing to go over it, but no luck.

Anybody have any experience with something like this?

Thanks,
Rick

What brand and model is it? I only ask because many of todays electronics are pretty well sealed for waterproofing.

It's a Lowrance Elite 7 HDI. I've been looking at ebay and Amazon, as well. Nothing!

My garmin gets soaked all the time. It would be nice to have it out of the sun though

I was kind of thinking like a plexiglass kind of hood that I could mount over the top.

@ Ronnie, what is this pod of which you speak?

Rick.
Not home now but ill post a link later.
The pods I'm referring are not cheap though. But they are waterproof.

Rick I have lowrance and garmin electronics and always get them wet while fishing in the rain, spray on rough days, and even wash them with the hose while washing the boat. Never had a problem.

They're pretty waterproof, just throw a sou'wester hat over it when it rains and fish on.

Easy enough to make one with some plexiglass sheets and a bottle of plexiglass solvent.

Yeah sun is more of an issue for me. Mine get wet all the time but viewing in sun with sun glasses stinks.

i just installed that same unit on my new boat. I juts ordered the sun cover. You shouldnt have any issue with it getting a little wet.
