My brother Mike several months ago have five bones fused to the outside of his right ankle. It has been a difficult journey so far. He couldn't rehab until the surgeon said the fusing had healed enough, which he finally started two weeks ago. He has been wearing a boot ever since the operation, which he was given the o.k. to now take it off while he is at home.
Consequently a sore developed on the outside of his little toe on his right foot , which morphed into osteomyilitis. His pcp puts him on antibiotics and it doesn't get better. That would have been hard for the doctor to fully assess because when Mike asked his pcp during a visit he said he didn''t need to look at it, more or less saying I believe I'll just give you more of the same drug that didn't work the first time.
So Mike goes to a wound clinic at the old Goddard Hospital. That docotr wouldn't touch it telling Mike to go right to a hospital. He saw a surgeon last night, who took one look at the toe and told him I'll clean that out in the morning, but I can tell you that toe is going to have to come off. The tow is been amputated tomorrow morning at South Shore Hospital, more or less because his primary just couldn't bend over enough, or care enough, to look at how bad the toe was. Hopefully the little toe will be all he is missing after the operation is over.
His attitude has always been great and seems to be now. After he got over the bad news from the surgeon he wanted to strangle his almost former pcp, and hire an attorney, which will probably happen. He always has a kind word for everyone and everything, so if all our members could keep him in thier thought the next few days I'd appreciate it.
