View Full Version : Misplaced or lost gear
Slipknot 05-29-2013, 04:07 PM Anyone ever can't find certain gear that you know you had but now can't find it? maybe after a long winter and not organizing your stuff in the fall, just tossing in piles here and there, then in the spring try to get stuff together? I won't be doing that again.
I lost sleep Sat. night trying to find a plano box I know I had, that had needles in it from last year. I had 2 parrot Habs, a blurple Habs, a white Habs and a yellow, also had super strike chartreuse and blurple and also an Old John needle like the ones in the Cup O Needles picture. There were other customs of mine and Diggin jiggin also.
I looked everywhere twice or more except of course where they were. I was pissed at myself and thought maybe me being a numbskull I left them on the sand or bumper and drove off last fall and now some lucky bastard has them all.
Well I did finally find them, I guess in my sleep deprived state I put them in my back seat on the floor under a shirt and forgot. :smash:I thought the truck was empty. So after a few days of panic I am very relieved to have my irreplaceable plugs back in my plugbags.
I still can't find a bag of stuff I bought from M&D's 6 years ago, probably got tossed in the trash like I did a few weeks ago to a cardboard template that I needed for a job I am doing right now an hour away. What happened to my brain cells?
so whatcha got?

massbassman 05-29-2013, 05:20 PM I had a pair of Costa Triple Tail sunglasses that I was never without, work or play. I fished the Canal one early morning, parking behind Gallo Ice Arena, and walking to my spot. Fished a few hrs. till the bite died and went back to the truck to get undressed. I took off my hat and set my sunglasses on the bumper to take off my sweatshirt for the hour ride home. Packed up the rods, and set off for home. As I went over the Bourne Bridge the morning glare hit me, and I reached for that place they always were, on top of my head, only to find them not there! You might have thought I lost one of my kids with the panic that set in. Like an @$$hole I pulled over and got out to check the bumper, then decided that I wasnt to far to go back and look for my beloved glasses. I got off the first exit and went back over the bridge, the whole time saying"please... please... please... be there!". I came up on the entrance of the rink and can you believe they were sitting there in the driveway!! A long stream of cars were coming as I tried to inch my way over to get them, when a woman in a van loaded with sweaty kids started heading towards the exit. I started to wave frantically to get her attention but she was looking at the oncoming cars. I finally caught an opening I wouldnt normally go for and still waving at her to stop, she looked at me, politefully smiled and waved, and unknowingly ran them over, crushing them. I could have cried... I think I might have.:bc:
piemma 05-29-2013, 08:47 PM Oh please, I have 2 8' long by 3' wide tables covered in 3 or 4 layers with stuff and that's just the basement, never mind the boat garage. I have stuff I haven't seen in years.
PaulS 05-30-2013, 07:39 AM I'm constantly looking for plugs that I had that I can no longer find.
JohnR 05-30-2013, 07:41 AM My mind
That's what happens when you get old Bruce !!!!!! The second thing to go.
Stewie 05-30-2013, 08:25 AM I've learned it is a waste of time to look for anything for more than 5 minutes. Just go buy another. In the case of non replaceable plugs, I'd probably just kick something. Then I'd realize that I had found them yesterday and put them in the truck already.

Jeanne likes that, easy yard sale when she finally kicks you out!
piemma 05-30-2013, 09:09 AM I'll pack everything in the motorhome. Then she will be sorry.
Rob Rockcrawler 05-30-2013, 09:26 AM Im missing a smokey joe redfin from 2 years ago. I know i didnt lose it fishing but the search continues. I bought a replacement last year and its got no mojo at all. Its funny when you fish long enough you know exactly what to pack for certain places/circumstances. That is when i cant find what i need.
Raven 05-30-2013, 09:59 AM you have to say over and over to your self out loud
because hearing it makes it "go in"
i have a perfect memory
i can remember anything
i will remember shortly
it is coming to me
i will remember
then back off to let your SELF spell
work it's magic ...distract yourself with a menial task
and POOF it'll pop up in your mind
fishbones 05-30-2013, 10:16 AM I was looking for my eel bucket this morning and couldn't find it anywhere. I think I may have given it to someone from this site back in November with my leftover eels after a night of drinking and very little fishing on the beach. I also have tons of plugs that I move around during the winter and then can't find them come spring. I usually come across something I was looking for last week when I'm trying to find something I need this week.

Ouch  that's painful
same thing happened to me with 2 trout rods a long time ago
tysdad115 05-30-2013, 12:33 PM I have at least 5 packages of swivels somewhere between my car and house. You think I can find any of them? I checked the bins, trunk..no where. Every time I need them I end up buying another bag, using 15 or so f them then they disappear.
Jimbo 05-30-2013, 03:35 PM I have, twice gone to places where I just grabbed a few lures out of my bag and hustled out on a doc where I let the lures hang on a railing. Worked each one for a while then hung it back on the railing, then when it was time to go I secured the one one my line and left the others hanging there. As far as tackle I guess I could say I know where everything is (for now) because it's all in a part of my garage no one else is allowed to access or else it's in my truck. But I will say my mind is going to mush and I'm startng to really suffer from whatever they call it when you have something to do and go from one room to another and suddenly can't remember what the heck what it was I was going to do. Well, it makes my wife and daughter chuckle.
ThrowingTimber 05-31-2013, 11:49 AM In 2005 I lost an Alice pack with 30 pound fluoro, 50 pound fluoro, a black mag darter, a sardine mag darter and a few pencils. Now this was after the girl I was dating at the time gave me the "it's me or fishing" racket. I packed all my gear and moved out, then returned for stuff like clothes etc.. Anyways... I still haven't found the Alice pack :(

Saltheart 05-31-2013, 12:17 PM I used to go see Bob Pond at Atom lures on a regular basis when the factory was over in Pawtucket/S Attleboro. I would get a half dozen "seconds) of swimmers and all sizes of the poppers every trip. Well years later , long after they closed down , I was rummaging in my cellkar and I found a whole 5 gallon bucket full of atom poppers still in their packages. :)
