So I am in the 18th season with my 1988 230 Mako walk around and getting an itch for a new vessel and wanted some critical feedback on the boats out there so here is the question what do you not like about your boat and what’s the best feature of your boat

I will go first
For the 1988 230 Mako
CON
the transom and freeboard is super low I often take on water from the back when drifting rips and the freeboard is it to my knee which makes it not a great boat for little ones.

Pro

Solid hull been out in a lot of nasty weather and boat handles very good in weather I probably should not be out in the cabin also has a lot of space for its size

Lack of storage
Scuppers are are often below waterline with people standing in the stern or when the below deck livewell is full.

oh, and the bracket with motor makes it a bit tricky to go from corner to corner with any type of big game on the line.

THATS IT though.. love the boat. Does everything I need.

That I need 2 shore power cords.
One for the A/C itself and one for the breaker panel.
I would like 1 cord.

I was looking at the Steiger at the last 2 boat shows and like the design and simplicity of the boat doesn’t seem like there is a lot of things that can brake I can also see how storage is a challenge . As far as the scuppers I have the same problem and installed a set of T H MARINE Flow-Max Ball Scupper Model # 1930353 | Manuf. # FMS-1-0-DP for 30$ and they work great but make a ping pong sound when drifting if you don’t have them already I definitely recommend them

Fishing freak do you need 2 separate outlets to plug into our do you use a splitter? Is that a wellcraft sportsman 250? If so what year is it? There is one moored near me in Falmouth that always catches my eye the seem like a well appointed boat for the age

I have a 18' 1977 jon Dory yellow tail ... when i first got the boat in 1980.. i hated the color... bright yellow... I painted it sand tone brown....my biggest hate was the transom... put two people in the stern and it would ship water on occasion over the stern with the right conditions.. hell alone in a "salmon chop" it would constant ship water... so when I repowered, i raised the transome 5 " and put an XL shaft motor.. best move I could have made... I tried an assortment of fuel tanks...bow tanks,under console.. above deck etc.... when I replaced the floor a few years back... i put in a 37 gallon belly tank...the boat never had seats...just a 40 gallon bait well behind the console... a year ago i tore my MCL while ice fishing.. last summer standing half the night 4 nights a week after standing on conctete floors for 9 hours a day made it swell to the size of a softball each night.. this spring I put in a leaning post... best thing i ever did.....it's taken 33 years of constant changes and upgrades... i probably could of bought a pretty nice boat for what I've spent.. the saving grace, I've done all my own work ( I was a certified merc mechanic for 20 years)... this spring i dumped another $4700 into misc items( including the leaning post and newKodoak bait well) to finish making her my own.. and I've never loved her more... my son will inherit a top notch inshore fishing boat when I croak!

I wish it were 3 feet longer

Sea Hunt 202 21' CC. T Top that I had 3/4 closed in. Wouldn't change a thing. Great boat in rough water, calm water whatever the conditions.
Running a Yami 4 stroke 115. Plenty of power and really good on fuel. I might move up to a 150 if this thing ever *&^% the bed but for now 30knts at 5000RPMs is plenty fast enough for me. Usually run 4200 at 23 to 25knts.

It is but much slower progress that I planned.
Back has been killing me.
MRI last week showed 2 slightly bulging discs & some kind of Tear so says my doctor.

Do what everyone has done with older open transom makos, close it and put the O/B on a bracket. classicmako.com to see a million different projects done.

23, things about her that bother me,, plastic through hull fittings (scuppers etc.),,, screw in deck plates (not latch type),,,, I rewired & changed a ton of connections to marine with shrink wrap connecters,,,, one biggy is the non skid deck,,, I realize this may be hard for you to avoid on a new rig but there tough to keep clean. I'm not a scrub clean every trip guy but on occasion it's a bear trying to get the stains out,,,
I wonder if a power washer would work without wrecking the surface,,,,, hmmmmm

Since I've fixed, replaced and upgraded just about everything I could,, its become my baby over the years. Its 10 times better then what Seaswirl has ever produced. I've put it through hell but a bay boat is still a bay boat, 2's and 3's with the occasional 4 will white knuckle any capt in a bay boat. I won't think twice going out 30 miles one way. Not sure what will come first,, a 15O 4 stroke or a 21 open contender. Not sure I wanna spend 35G's for a used one...Im easily convinced though.

Besides the wet feet I can't think of much I don't like about my 1971 Seacraft...maybe a little better quality construction for more longevity.

My Seacraft i wish had scupper out the transom. Also wish the transom was enclosed with a bracket. Other than that love that boat.

Agree on the non-skid deck but I just throw a gallon of bleach in her when I leave. The sun and the bleach turn everything white. Clammer thought my boat never got dirty. He and Dennis pull up next to me today and my boat is covered in blood. Dennis says "I thought our boat never gets dirty". Oh it gets dirty but I CLEAN it after every run.

BTW, I do have bottom paint but only on the smile line and transom. I run so much my boat's bottom doesn't need it. Of course if I keep hitting rocks they way I have for the past week I' gonna need a new hull.

Me, too. Except #^&#^&#^&#^&y is in control of this and will likely get very angry for me saying this.

I think the best thing will be haiving a boat that starts when you turn the key.

my boat 03 fish hawk 213wa with a 150 etec ( same as hydra sport 212wa)
hates--
1 notched transom, hate water on the deck in rough seas( next boat will have a full height transom)
2 wet ride on certin conditions....next boat will be a pilot house
3 not big enough...next one will be 25-28....but isn't that always the case (not big enough)

easy to trailer
still gets everything done

I love my McKee 196CC, especially after the hard T-top and canvass with wings, the two things I don't like are lack of true dry storage and its wet on the back deck if it's rocking and rolling. Other than that, this boat is perfect for me and the MinnKota 101 Autopilot was a really good addition last year. I love to set it on a compass heading, walk to the back of the boat and fish, like being anchored without the hastle of actually doing it.
