I bought these off e-bay and was wondering if they were worth
anything before I refurb and fish them?

I've been watching ebay for vintage creek chub lures and think they are about worth what you spent, because some of those things go for over $1000. There are so many guys watching that nothing of real value gets through. Check out the counters at the bottom of the page and you'll see exactly how many people have looked at a particular item. Be sure to post a picture of them when you get done refinishing them.

Good! I got these to fish. I kinda figured these guys with lures
from floor to ceiling are buying them up. I just wanted to make sure I was not destroying a rare lure.

Both are older models (glass eyes) very common color, and type of pikie that does not bring out the heavy hitters. Not sure what you paid but should range 12 to 25 dollar range.
A hint to you guys looking to refurbish plugs from e-bay. Check your search by seeing what plugs are going to end first, look at the lower priced auctions and check those lures. Bid on the ugly ducklings and enjoy refurbishing them. Then you will never feel like your fishing a national treasure.

I've been buying some old lures off ebay for about 2 months now for a little project and noticed that the lures with paint in tough shape are usually under $10. Some of the sellers start with a high initial bid though, and others try to make their money off s/h.Besides pikies are any other old freshwater lures worth buying? I was wondering abour Musky sized Jitterbugs in particular.

because there are far more freshwater collectors out there prices for freshwater lures on the average are much higher. Though rare, mint saltwater stuff will bring in hi prices.
Good catch on the high shipping and handling. If you do bid on lures check to see what the say on S&H before you bid. The honest people will put the shipping total in or say how they plan to ship. Any others ask in an e-mail how they are planning to ship and what the price of shipping will be.
In truth I have only been overcharge or had some one ship cheaper than the price about four times. Most people out there are pretty honest.

i've been searchin' for pikies on there myself....

i haven't seen one yet go for under 20.00...looks like I'm not looking hard enough:) :)

It all depends on size and needs. The smaller versions can be picked up cheaply. While Giants are hard to come by. Prices for larger models will run in the 30 dollar range and higher.

In truth it might be easier to find pikies at garage sales, flea markets, and lure swaps. Espescially for you eastcoast guys.

Not to be repetitive, but is anything besides pikies worth doing? For surfcasting : Stripers or blues?

rocketman if I can find plugs fairly easy why build them?Also Pikies are not found in stores so learning how to build them has become a personal exploritation.

People who fish pikies seem to have this obsession with them. The collect them. They build them. They hoard them. They buy all of them when they find someone with an old collection.

Pikies are fun to make...They smile at you the whole time your making them..They swim pissa...I love em...I'm working on my Winchmaster Diploma in Pikie making and getting ho'ed...:happy:

You can still get pikies new, but they're plastic. check out lurenet.com and enter creek chub in the search window. Basspro has them too.

Since I am not a collector but instead what I call myself is a hoarder. I can't give you exact ages of plugs. From what I do know is this, Older models have these things.
1. Glass eyes.
2. stamped tops
3. swievels on the front
4.reinforced bills
Which yours have so my guess would be pre 1960 plugs, possibly 1950.
They are probably older than you. ;);)

Do not buy the plastic pikies that are for sale nowadays. They will not do what you need them to do.
The only thing that those lures have in common with the pikies of old is the name. It would be better to find someone that is making copies to sell.
