Jamestown homeowner loses fight against right of way

The owner of a pricey seaside house in Jamestown has lost a decade-long fight against a right-of-way that runs beside the home and leads to Narragansett Bay.
In 2003, the state Coastal Resources Management Council voted to formally designate the grassy corridor at the end of High Street as a public right of way following complaints by residents that the residents of 7 High St. were obstructing public access. The couple that owned the house appealed the decision.
"The decision of the CRMC is affirmed and High Street in Jamestown ... will remain a public right-of-way providing access to the Narragansett shore," Superior Court Judge Brian Van Couyghen wrote in his May 31 decision.
Brian Goldman, CRMC's lawyer, hailed the decision and acknowledged it had been a long time coming.

Years ago High Street was a go to spot for the old Narragansett Sharpies. Gil Guilletone and Andy Lemare showed me the spot in the early 80s

I understand there is a ROW on the west side of the
Quonny breakwater. I have tried to find it but the
land owners have tried to hide it with trash and
construction material. That is a prime fishing spot
that should be kept open. What options are suggested???

That spot (pointing up) get's overrun and trashed by the general public; best to keep the ROW under your hat. Wait till fall.

That is good news. Let's hope all who use this public access utilize good sense and respect!
