Just saw the news about the 19 ff that lost a battle vs wildfire in AZ. Takes a special breed of human to do that line of work.

A sad loss of 19 talented, fearless individuals. T&P for their families.

Hugely unfortunate. 19 of 20 that run to the fire.

so sad to see the news this morning

if you've never seen the whole vast hillside with smoke behind it
it's a very chilling experience ....i can tell you .....from seeing it.

I was in Colorado last summer and saw some serious fires one was right in the town I was in. It's so surreal.

God bless them! I have seen a lot of crazy stuff in the fire service but these guys have brass sinkers.....I will stick to burning buildings. Thoughts and prayers to the family and their fire service brothers.

Wildfires are nothing nice. They crown over you ,suck up all the oxygen then burn all below in a giant flash over.No way out and no place to go.
We lost a bunch of very brave fire fighters. Sad.

Building fires are bad enough for firemen to have to endure, but wild fires are a beast that truly bites back. Even with their "survival" equipment they are at the mercy of the fire.

I can't say from personal experience, but those that have had the experience can only explain it as having the air sucked out of your lungs as the fire rushes over you.

They are truly a breed abover the rest, and God bless them all!

That was my first thought. I'm pretty sure he travels out west every summer to fight the fires. Hope he's ok. T&P's to the familes and friends of the brave men killed in AZ.

These guys were an elite unit as well. Crazy...that's got to be one of the hardest jobs on earth. RIP.

just tragic, these poor families. T&Ps with them all.

amazing, they even set up their fire shelters and it wasn't enough, must have been a mother of a fire

Can't imagine the feeling of hiding or in this case, trapping yourself in this shelter only to have it fail due to the extreme temp/flames...I pray that God helps their families through this.
