Hey guys. I've got this penn that's worked like a champ for years. I went to put some gear together for a trip and the bail button, or whatever it's called wont release after I push it down and the crank just spins, won't engage. I assume its a relatively easy fix, for someone who knows what they're doing. So here I am...because I don't!!!
Thanks - Mark

Mine had the same problem a couple times. It has something to do with the clutch. Probably just a spring. Check out the schematic. I always brought mine to the shop to fix. The parts are cheap.

Thank you, played Around with it for a bit and it seems to be fine now.

Grease gets hard and makes it stick.
Tear it down and just put a drop of oil on it internally.

What a huge disappointment the 900 International series was/is. The 965 couldn't compare to a 400 calcutta in casting or durability. Along with the above mentioned problem with the free spool button, the thing ate pawls like they were tictacs. I was more upset with the 975. The size was perfect, half way between a calcutta 400 and 700. Easy to palm, decent drag, but just a dog to cast(comparably) and very slow. I gave them both many opportunities to convert me but eventually sold both.
