View Full Version : A new world record? Sgt Striper 07-10-2013, 10:03 PM Whatcha think? Ian 07-10-2013, 10:07 PM Given how far it is from his body I don't think so... Is he supposed to be holding it himself in the pic? Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device onecastmike2003 07-10-2013, 10:10 PM He's got a great honey hole .. No world record, but one hell of a bass. She could eat the fish I have been catching lately! jon2465 07-11-2013, 05:20 AM 73.75 parker23 07-11-2013, 05:36 AM What a beautiful cow! That's either real or the worst long arm I have ever seen. I tend to so BS and if its real... 40# Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device PaulS 07-11-2013, 08:12 AM I'd say easily over 50. nightfighter 07-11-2013, 08:32 AM Why all the doubters???? It is supposedly Greg M, who holds the certified record, though I don't personally know him, nor could I identify him from a picture. From reports I have read or heard over the past year, he is hardcore, serious bass fisherman. He played collegiate football, so is large in stature. If he were a contributing member here, we would all be congratulating him.... That is a serious catch! I for one, enjoy seeing such a picture, as catching bass is what I enjoy and is why I come here..... Ian 07-11-2013, 08:52 AM Why all the doubters???? I for one, enjoy seeing such a picture, as catching bass is what I enjoy and is why I come here..... 1 - In today's day and age you can take a MUCH better photo than that with almost any camera. If guys keep releasing these grainy, washed out pictures of a bass, people are going to keep speculating 2 - The whole fish isn't in frame and its being held at a VERY peculiar angle. If I ever catch a fish that big the picture will be very good quality, the fish will be held against my body for an unquestioned source of scale, and the entire fish will be in frame. I wish people would just try to make their fish NOT look sketchy. For the record, I didn't doubt the picture was real, just wasn't a WR (>80lb) fish. nightfighter 07-11-2013, 09:00 AM I agree, not a record. He reported it to be 73 1/4# (second hand report he must have put on FB. I don't do FB) Most of collaborative info came off the other board, which includes him saying it fought harder than any other bass he had hooked, including the record fish. As for photos.... especially at night... I am a fisherman, not a photographer. Hence you will not see more than two posted pics of me holding fish.... I have a dumb phone and don't carry a camera. It's not what I do it for. seadogg 07-11-2013, 09:02 AM What the hell is the point of even speculating? Whether the thing is 20 pounds or 120 pound doesn't do much for me. Who cares? Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device N.ShoreFisher 07-11-2013, 09:25 AM Wow. I'd love to catch a fish big enough for people to argue about possibilities of it being a record. Not sure I ever will, but would love every sec of it! VERY VERY nice fish. Good on him! bart 07-11-2013, 09:36 AM Nice fish. My only beef is that he catches a lot of big fish and kills a lot of big fish. How many do you need to kill at this point? Why not only keep what would be close to beating your own record at this point? What else is left to prove? Rob Rockcrawler 07-11-2013, 09:58 AM Nice fish. That guy knows how to go large for sure. If i were to catch a world record and keep it i think everything else would swim away. Unless of course i was fishing a tournament like the striper cup. :smash: Rob Rockcrawler 07-11-2013, 10:04 AM Nice fish. As soon as i see the fish i go into a half panic on getting it back in the water healthy. I take more of an ass woopin in the surf releasing than i ever do catching. My views on catch and release aside, congrats to Greg. Rockport24 07-11-2013, 10:25 AM Looking at the photo, his arm does appear to be bent and not outstreched, but I'm no forensic photo guy.. Either way, it's looks like a damn nice fish, so congrats to him again. Raven 07-11-2013, 10:28 AM It's a great catch regardless... too bad the camera flash made him squint his eyes a Bit so I took his eyes from another picture and edited that photo just my way of saying "nice fish" Greg ! one for the scrap book http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c66/ravenob1/Greg.png doc 07-11-2013, 11:05 AM The photo that would really impress me would be one of him releasing a fish like that... I've never caught a trophy, but if I did, I would keep it as well. But if I had caught many, many large fish and held the world record, I don't think I'd feel the need to keep large fish still. That's just my opinion. I still don't see how killing fish equates to having balls, though. yawn... I think we should be happy to see these fish it helps the case that conservation and catch and release works.. you didn't see fish like that in the late 80's it was a fry then.. we don't condemn commercial guys whys is that? no pictures... we who use rod and reel are not the enemy to the future of fish stocks .. scottw 07-13-2013, 05:34 AM I read back through the comments and it seems the disparaging views mostly involved the crappy photography....posting pictures in the public square invites comment..if he posted pictures of him drinking himself into a stupor...some might applaud, some might laugh, some might comment that is seems excessive and some might comment that he's an idiot...it's legal, he can do it and post pics of it and he's really not bothering anyone...he solidified his status as a legendary fisherman and most of us..no....just about all of us know that we'll never sniff a fish like the many that he has landed, it shouldn't preclude anyone form commenting or asking questions....it would be great to see him release a 70 having already hit that mark in his lifetime(primarily because it would be unique I think but also one hell of a gesture), I guess two is even better.....I think he's entered some big fish in the Striper Cup catch and release indicating that he does put some big fish back....I always wonder what you do with a fish like that after the pics, is the commercial season open in CT? If you enjoy eating fish, and I do...the 30 something inch fish are far preferable for dinner, I've noticed a few things whenever these threads pop up....individual views not only vary widely but for some have changed quite a bit over time, some were singing very different tunes just a year or two ago which means that opinions evolve on these things and not necessarily with "seasoning" but sometimes with "catching" as in, "if "I'm" doing well...then there's no problem with the striper population so whale away...but if i'm not catching where I feel I deserve to be catching, the sky is falling, it's pre-moratorium all over again and it's everyone else's fault"......the keepers are more and more sensitive about the keeping, particularly of the big fish, not sure if it's part of the evolution, oversensitivity or guilt possibly...guilt as a result of the trend among peers or mood of community and the fact that you are seeing more and more pics/video of releases which the community seems to enjoy and applaud universally(not disparage)....always an interesting discussion though BTW...the guys that I've always thought of as having "big balls" are the ones who continually do things that require either disregard or stupidity and somehow get away with it...then we marvel...'wow...he's got a set"....the odds usually catch up to them though:biglaugh: piemma 07-13-2013, 08:02 AM [QUOTE=scottw;1006083] is the commercial season open in CT? QUOTE] I do not believe that CT has a commercial season. PaulS 07-13-2013, 01:45 PM Correct, no commercial season in Ct. Although 1 - 2 years ago they allocated the "commercial quota" to the rec. by giving out a bonus voucher for a 3rd fish at like 25" or something crazy like that. Or say nothing. I've taken pictures of my friends fish in a boat at night and it isn't easy. The boat is not sittin still, it's moving in the current and pictures do not come out perfect. And you end up holding the fish at weird angles trying to stay upright. The guy is dialed in, has proved it for years.
