Actually my personal only on these species. Spent the last week in St. Maarten. Went 1 for 3 on Tarpon (24.6lbs) and 1 for 2 on Snook (12.4 lbs). No one, no one fishes on this island from shore, not even a tackle shop that caters to shore fisherman. Heard of 170 lb tarpon and 50 lb Snook caught from shore here in the spring. A local guide told me that there is a total of 10 surf guys year round on the island.

thats awesome and inspiring....I am headed to St John this weekend and just packed up my gear. Its the same deal there, very few fish from shore. I hope to get into a few cuda and perhaps a tarpon. I saw tons last year snorkeling.

Every time I have been there I was too easily distracted on the beaches to fish. Nicely done

Thanks guys. The snook was on a live anchovie that we netted, and the tarpon was on a small rubber shad on a lead head. The Tarpon jumping is something to witness! Amazing fish
