View Full Version : Anyone thinking about doing the MV Derby?
nightfighter 07-30-2013, 09:09 PM It has been a few years since I have been. Getting the itch to go back for half a week/long weekend to chase some albies and maybe scare up a few bass. Always an event to look forward to at the beginning of the end. Anyone have plans or thinking about it?

vineyardblues 07-31-2013, 08:26 AM Ross,
I may rent again late this year , the fishing has been way off the last few years and wasque is all but gone :( I will keep you in mind
I also have a great connection for a rental , small 2 bedrooms if interested, she owns 2 homes
I wish the fishing was better
nightfighter 08-01-2013, 04:05 PM I do know of a member here who is renting a house for the whole run of the Derby.... Trying to figure out when I could slide over there for something like a Thursday to Sunday stay.... It is my only shot at albies.
Kind of surprised not to hear from the regular Derby participants.... We do have three shore division Striped Bass Champions as members here........
rickhern 08-01-2013, 08:09 PM Hope to make it over, haven't missed one in a long time. Probably be a game time decision.

That's a glass half empty statement! There are 4 months lefts in the main season! :)
nightfighter 08-02-2013, 05:02 AM Derby runs from mid Sept to mid October, which is the beginning of the end of my season. I had a PB in the month of October,, but it is done up this way come mid November.
Sea Dangles 08-02-2013, 06:35 AM Take a ride down to WPT for some September albies Ross! I can put you on them.

Mr. Sandman 08-24-2013, 07:20 AM Shore fishing is so so right now. No albies to speak of yet. A few from boats but none from shore that I have heard of. Bones, the same. But the boats are getting them offshore in fair numbers. Night bass fishing is pretty good. Not a lot of giant fish but lots of fish in the teens to low 20's with the occasional 30+. Bluefishing was great earlier but has since slowed.
All this will change in the coming weeks. From the boat I am seeing lots of breaking fish around the island, mainly bluefish but this is a good sign.
Hopefully when the water temp drops a little more it will kick into high gear. We have peaked and are holding at 73 right now. There were some spots in ACK sound that hit 77 this summer. Summer is over and fall has starting, the amount of daylight we are getting is falling like a rock right now. These recent moon tides we have been seeing are crazy...some of the currents were pushing 5 knots in places the last couple days. (I am the boat going in the wrong direction all the time) The fish will put on the feed bag starting this week IMO if this friggin east wind will stop and blow sw for a couple days!
Squid kids Dad 08-25-2013, 01:01 AM Cant wait to get over there..Missed last year,,,not gonna miss this year
nightfighter 08-30-2013, 08:26 PM Might have a shot at getting my son to join me there for this long weekend trip! Dangled the carrot in front of him today.
