View Full Version : Albies/Bonito?
Rob Rockcrawler 08-01-2013, 09:20 AM Is there a certain temperature that brings these fish in? I know they like warm water but is there a magic number similar to 50 for stripers? I got a few albies last year and cant wait for a return, i am assuming that the time is approaching since we are around 70 degrees in a lot of places.
bassballer 08-01-2013, 09:59 AM I say 3 more weeks in our area. I cant wait. My favorite time of the year.
Saltheart 08-01-2013, 10:29 AM I'm not sure if its a temp thing . I know they come in mid to late august and have seen them late July a few times. It may be proximity of the Gulf Stream , local temps and day light combined.
Anyway , it is a great time to me on the beach casting! :)
flyvice11787 08-01-2013, 04:45 PM Bonito reports should start any day now. Albies by end of August offshore. Early September inshore.

We ran into pods of bonito in Block Island Sound on Wednesday. I thought it was too early, but the warm may be the key.

Tunabreath 08-10-2013, 01:49 PM anyone want to predict whether albies will show in buzzards bay this year, last year stunk in bb with poor water quality
seadogg 08-10-2013, 08:21 PM I beg to differ. They showed up in force man. I was catching them consistently in Buzzards Bay till mid October last season. I hope this year's the same!

Tunabreath 08-11-2013, 11:58 AM do you find them anywhere near the west end of the canal last year?

sounds about right...reports from a certain nearby pile of Rhody rocks usually start in the next week or two...
seadogg 08-11-2013, 10:19 PM I don't typically search for them in that area, Tunabreath, but a buddy of mine was hammering them behind Naushon and north through Wood's hole and eastern Buzzards Bay. I was seeing them mostly from Mattapoisett to Westport. They stayed right up until a super cold snap late in October. Can't wait for em to show up again.

PI is the only locale that has reported such. BUT, it might be worth a ride...... Have to check with TDF.
The Dad Fisherman 08-12-2013, 12:12 PM I haven't heard anything...but I have also been down in PA all weekend and just got my PC working about 20 minutes ago. :hee:
JackK 08-12-2013, 12:25 PM I'm considering a trip up to PI tonight to comb the beach in search of funny fish if anyone wants to join.
