View Full Version : Albies from the rocks
I might have a 9ft rod rigged for albies this Sept, but if i don't, I would really like to have a shot at them using my 10ft'er.
Any recommendations on terminal tackle? Could I get away with a heavy flouro leader?
What lures do you like? Keep in mind I'll be throwing a 10ft Lami SSU. I've hooked up, but dropped a couple albies on 3 oz Crippled Herring. Will they hit 3oz Kastmasters? Any other tins that would load my rod?
Float and jig: I know this method is deadly. Anyone know where I can get casting eggs? Zoom fluke below on jighead? Do you, or can you, even "work" them with a 10ft rod?
Thanks for the help. Too many times last year I watched (by myself) MONSTER albie blitzes, but never had tins on me. Not much of a tin guy, but I found a bunch hidden in my basement and put them to good use late in the season. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Tight lines!
20 pound flouro. Small swivels and clips don't seem to hurt the bite, though I direct tie sometimes. Gold tins were the ticket for me last year

seadogg 08-19-2013, 09:45 AM To get the distance, use metal or a casting egg, to which you can tie on small teaser flies to match the bait. Works well for finicky fish. Also, the shimano waxwing casts like a missile and works great on albies.

Make'em...go to AC Moores and pick up some wooden eggs for a buck a piece, drill a hole through it and wrap some wire. Put in a small finishing nail and you are done.

Metal jigs, megabaits, mariahs, etc and USE A TEASER. I can't tell you how many times the teaser was the difference between catching and not catching. Those that had teasers caught and those that didn't, watched.
Pink in the teasers
nightfighter 08-19-2013, 02:42 PM Swimmer makes some really nice teaser set ups. PM him and I'm sure he can set you up. The local B&T is carrying them now too. He markets them as Weeza's Teasers.
rizzo 08-19-2013, 02:55 PM I have a ton of flys and some extra casting eggs. They're yours next time I bump into you.
I have randomly run into them as well with a 10' surf rod and changed over to the egg and fly and it works out great. Still put up a hell of fight on that gear.

If you don't have wire, just use long screw eyes. I use epoxy to set in there. Then, a little white primer to seal it and done.....don't forget the nail! lol
